Victor VE-8-30X Credenza demonstration of a puzzle record (HD)

Victor Orthophonic Puzzle Record #22745 - a demonstration of the three separate tunes hidden on one side of the record.
- Two (2) tunes by the Victor Novelty Orchestra
- One (1) tune Al Bowlly sings a chorus of "You're Driving Me Crazy"
This mutiple-groove record is a type of record which has more than one groove per side. This technique allows hidden tracks or "alternate endings" to be encoded on LPs, 45 rpms and 78 rpms. On a record that has a "multi-groove," what is played depends on where one cues the stylus.

This is incredible. Sitting right next to me as I write this, is a machine IDENTICAL to this one. It's been in my family since 1933. Unfortunately, someone along the way, gutted it, painted it fluorescent orange, and, left it outside, so it was in pretty rough shape. It found it's way back to my branch of the family, and, my father restored it back to original condition (cosmetically). Unfortunately, back in the 70's when he was restoring it, there were no forums, message boards, or, online support to track down the internal parts, so it is just a cabinet now. Under the lid though, the original tone arm remains, but there is no turn table. I always wondered what it would have sounded like. Mystery solved.

@gnativerson Well, playing Victor "scroll" records will give you the best sound. They are called scrolls because of the scroll outline on the label, they are electrically recorded and best designed for use on the Victor Orthopohic series. Needles generally come in soft / medium / loud and sometimes extra loud "sizes"... that can also help.

nice -- I've a VE8-4, only a few records and its not playing very loud. The reproducer has been serviced -- what needles are good for higher output?
