The spurs are known for experimenting a ton in the early part of the season. Before he had his stroke, they asked Pop why Wemby keeps going out for the 3's when he was struggling and Pop said "because I told him to". The Sochan experiment last year with putting him in as point guard was miserable while it was taking place, but the amount of growth that Sochan had shown over last year was huge. Popovich does not care about winning games from October through early December. He's focused on trying new things, figuring out what works best, resting the guys who need the rest, and gearing up for the latter half of the season.

Americans don't realize that NBA basketball is much more direct and less strategic than FIBA. It's a very different way of playing, which is perfect for a point guard to adapt but can be complicated to adapt to for other roles. Wemby needs to find a way to be the leader of his team and not waste so many shots. In 1 year it has already changed enormously and the team is still under construction. His strong point will always remain defense. But he must score more and make his teammates score more. Waste fewer attempts.

I know who it was @A.M. Hoops because as a lifelong Spurs fan who predates David Robinson, I was like this is crazy to go from 0 to 100 about Wemby especially after he said that he approves of the way he’s being developed. Never mind the fact that this comparison between him and Chet is completely different Chet is talented but he’s 3 or so in the pecking order and they added more this offseason to assist Wemby’s the top dog are guy’s coming along sure but who’s an MVP candidate today besides himself. Chet can simply contribute to a win and that’s gravy because he’s not the franchise player and the team is built to win now, in the event he goes off in a loss he’s still gonna he get shown love regardless. Not so for Wemby because the expectations are far more astronomical he’s supposed to lift his team to the play in at minimum with minimum no excuses and he’s not going to make any excuses. But the Utah game was a classic example if you watched they did have turnovers but as fan I appreciated the overall effort so I wasn’t mad with the 1 point loss, remember Wemby played a lot of basketball prior to entering the league last season and started slowly and he had a full offseason this year as well, dang cut him a break and get that hate out your hearts.
