Anyone who says he needs to play more in the paint is beyond a casual. He hasn’t fully grown into his body yet, and bigs historically have shortened careers because they rely on their strength and athleticism, whereas Wemby is developing his three, which is a massive part of the modern era while still being the best defender in the league.

Wemby has been on an absolute burner these last 15 games or so. Averaging 30/10/5/5 on 50/40/90 shooting basically. Somehow this has gone pretty unoticed by the media??? NBA has a ratings problem and this guy is the solution…NBA needs to start promoting this guy more asap!!!
@glovs418812 сағат бұрын
NBA ratings are down cause clutch media populating major sports media shows can't stop talking about LeBron and the Lakers. Marketing LeBron who don't stop complaining and playing no defense is simply dumb. Even casual fans notices his complete lack of effort. Heck, even Lakers fans are sick of him. Meanwhile. actual great players and teams like giannis, SGA and jokic putting up historic seasons are barely even televised. And high impact young guys like banchero and Franz with the magic, jay dub, garland, Allen and mobley etc. But the league focuses on inefficient and can't play defense lamelo ball, gun runner who is marketed as the best player in Memphis when in reality it's triple J. Cause they're flashy. Is another reason of the league down fall.

I'm getting tired of hearimg more "experts" saying Wembanyama should play in the paint all the time, as if the Spurs would magically become a championship team because of that. Thing is, the Spurs lack shooters (among other things, like a decent back up center to give Wemby some minutes to rest). As soon as you put Wemby in the low post, he'll start getting double and triple teamed and he'll have to kick the ball out to the shooters. I don't understand how people say that the Spurs were the best team Wemby could have possibly land while at the same time criticize everything the Spurs are doing with Wembanyama. HE'S 20 YEARS OLD. No need to rush things at all.
@OhDuur5 сағат бұрын
Damn you sum it up perfectly. I'll add this : training you shooting skills while waiting for your body to be ready for more physical contact is the right order to do things. Wemby is arguably one of the 5-10 most valuable players in the league just because of his insane defensive gravity and because of all the looks he frees up in the mid court and he’s only gonna get better. Not to mention his elite three point shooting only adding to the problems guarding this guy. The only teams that can effectively slow him down are elite defensive teams like okc or teams with elite big men like Denver or Milwaukee and as wemby develops his playmaking ability i see no possible way to effectively slow him down besides doubling the hell out of him all the time.

Wemby is like a 7’4 guy with an 8ft wingspan mix of AD (Lob treat, defensive IQ, timing to block shot, mobility), Porzingis (3pts shooting with logo range with an incontestable shot at 7’4), KD (Handles, passing, motor, off ball movements/movements shooting) … All of that at 20, in his prime he could be as good of a playmaker/passer as Jokic or Lebron, and he could shoot over 40% from 3 (KAT shot 34% on 1.1 attempt and 36% from 3 on 3.4 attempts in his first 2seasons, KD shot 28% on 2.6 attempts then 42% on 3.1 attempts then 36% and 35% on 4.8 attempts in his 3rd and 4th seasons), and look at them now, KD is the GOAT midrange shooter and elite 3pts shooter and KAT is one of the 2-3 best 3pts shooting 7ft Center ever, so Wemby could really be the best defensive player ever (Without comparing era because rim protection and defense was so valuable in the 60’s that Bill Russell won 11 titles, so Wemby would be even better back then), and he could be the best offensive player ever too, wich is crazy but he has the potential to be on Bron, MJ, Curry, Jokic level, or better …

What makes you say he could be as good of a playmaker as Jokic or Lebron? Jokic may be the best passer in league history so to say Wembanyama could be as good is a stretch imo. What is most impressive about Wemby at his height is how mobile he is. KD made people lose their minds because he was very mobile at 6'10, Wemby is doing that exact same thing at 7'5 and he's just getting started. There are a lot of big men in the league, but few are capable of being mobile and agile like Wemby on both ends. He can literally do everything on both ends, and he's the second worst version of Wemby ever (after Rookie Wemby which was the worst version of Wemby ever)

I remember very early in Lebrons career I knew he was going to be a multiple time mvp and champion and at least top 10 all time if not in the goat conversation but with Wemby I feel even stronger at an earlier stage . As long as he doesn’t have any career altering injuries he will be the greatest of all time .. which is crazy to say about a 2nd year 20 year old except it’s not crazy if you understand what we are witnessing from now is only the beginning and he’ll be significantly better by the time he’s 25-29.
@Nazhuk11 сағат бұрын
if he was the next GOAT like you said we would see him impact winning way more than he does. For example Cavs were bottom before they got Lebron and he made them win much more games in his first two season. Spurs before Duncan were 20 win team after they drafted him they become a 40+ win team right away. There are actually more cases like this where young all time great has great impact in his first couple years. Now you come and say this guy might end up better than them lol
@juju-vl7oj10 сағат бұрын
@ Duncan came into the league as fully developed player with 4 years of college and the reason the Spurs had a bad year before he was drafted is David Robinson was out the entire season then came back when they drafted Duncan, The West is a lot deeper and better than the Eastern conference was when LeBron was a rookie . Nonetheless individuals don’t win by themselves Jordan had 3 years of college and came into the league closer to a developed product than Wemby is now and the Bulls were 38-44, 30-52 and 40-42 his first 3 seasons 1-9 in playoff games , Spurs relative to the rest of the current league if you took the best player off of each team last year had a bottom 3 roster and this year it’s not that much better this year so being 15-15 isn’t bad given there’s no one else even close to being an allstar and he’s 20 years old. I think people just make up rules on how many wins and or championships someone should have to legitimize a player and just disregard it’s a team sport and the situations are completely different.

As amazing as Wemby is, unless these translate to wins, it's not going to matter too much. TD's contributions to his team during his first two seasons were still more impressive. Mind you, TD had more help, but he still led his team to the promised land. I hope Wemby can do the same and more.

TD had The Admiral since day 1. It's not "more help", it's so much better. If TD had begun with Collins and no PG, you could compare.

@@anthonybousquet1585 Where is he carrying his team. They are 11th in the west played mostly bad teams, they have the 2nd toughest schedule remaining in the NBA.

@bornaseki4195 Well, he's no doubt the best player and go-to-guy of the Spurs. 2 years ago, they were the worst team in NBA. Now, they are not horrible in a super stacked conference. By the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised that SA qualifies from the play-in. As I stated, Spurs are still very far away from a title, but in 5 years, we'll see 👀 😉 And right now, Wemby carries almost all the weight of SAS on his shoulders. At 20. As a sophomore. Already best defender of the league. If you are unimpressed, nothing I can do 🤗

Everyone under 25 will be like, "Ohh, you're just hating, and you're a casual and don't know basketball". But hear me out...Wemby, against the Knicks, was 16-31 from the field, which is pretty good but not great for someone with his size and skill. However, consider this, he is 6-16 from 3. That means he missed 10 3's and was shooting 76% from the field from 2. Had he stopped at 6 3's and taken the rest as 2's, let's say, he didn't continue shooting at 76%, but he dropped to 65%. They win that GAME! I thought greatness was about WINNING games, not having impressive stat lines. They lost because he took 16 3's that's the take away. Playing to your advantage. Ok, I'm done, ya'll can call me all kinds of names now.
@AtsyKlr14 сағат бұрын
they lost because his other teammates sucks especially vassel
@tyrismaxey14 сағат бұрын
@AtsyKlr they lost by 3, not 30. Great players traditionally only need the teammates to get you within striking distance.
@Ebriel000000012 сағат бұрын
@@tyrismaxey BS. Spurs made 15 TOs (5 for Knicks) and didn't even try to rebound in money time so they didn't lose because Wemby didn't make 50, they lost because the other guys didn't play D in the last minutes. Too many chokers in this team : that's the reason why they lost their 2 last games at the very end. Plus the coach used Sochan as a backup center (which is a joke) so he couldn't defend on the perimeter : the result was a ton of O rebounds for the Knicks and an open wing for Bridges... who used it perfectly. When everybody has been bad but Wemby, Sochan and CP3, you don't win against a good team playing at home.
@tyrismaxey11 сағат бұрын
@Ebriel0000000 I understand you don't get it, it's not just about scoring 50. There's something called winning plays. 15 TO's isn't even abnormal in the NBA 14 is league avg. Not holding Vic to any standards is not helping him, nor does it make you look more informed to blame role players for being role players. They lost by 3. 3 less 3's and take those shots at the rim at winning plays. There is a point of diminishing returns. When his teammates see him miss 3pter numbers 7-16 you see their heads drop. You wanna teammate to rebound? Well jacking up 3s has the opposite effect, you want them engaged, 3s ain't gonna do it. Not winning basketball!
@AtsyKlr9 сағат бұрын
@@tyrismaxey nah just let him chuck all the 3s he wants. spurs likes to see him healthy for a good amount of years rather than banging his undeveloped frame into the paint and getting injured. spurs f.o knows what they are doing especially pop

People ragged on Michael Jordan back in 1986 about his lack of team success, right?Alien athleticism and ability, doing things nobody had seen before, but...... What a loser, he couldn't get the bulls above 40 wins in two seasons. Empty stats guy. Never amounted to anything. 😁

@Mike-r4h I didn't call him a loser, you did. In fact, I didn't say anything at all about him, I pointed out a fact about the San Antonio record, in order to illustrate how childish the title of the video is. Its just annoying listening to people crown everyone who comes along as the best EVER of something before they've even started shaving. Almost as tiresome as being considered a hater unless you are literally verbally fellating the guy.

@@50Nobody50 I didn't call MJ a loser either, back then. Some did, while others anointed him as they next great who would take over the league. You know, kind of like what's happening with Wemby now😁. Time will tell, but the similarities are striking.
