8 Years ago was the last comment on this. Crazy. Victor is an absolute maestro.

I used to bike across Ontario with this song in my playlist 15 years ago. Haven't heard this in quite some time and had to come back to it.

Glad to see people enjoying this man today!!! I watched a lot of Victor Wooten videos to learn bass when I was young. Sadly, his talent completely discouraged me and I directed my attention towards a keyboard. I still always loved watching/listening to him play, in complete awe of this mans talent!

I tried to find this video for a long time but somehow the algo would not show it to me despite multiple very specific search bar entries such as "amazing grace - victor wooten/bela fleck and the flecktones" and still no results except Michael Palmisano's interview of Cory Wong with them both listening to this video on stream, I thought it had been taken down since then. This entire concert but the virtuoso part of that solo in particular is permanently etched into my brain, real happy to find the OG video they reacted to.

The harmonic "Amazing Grace" incorporation is so beautiful. Hell, the whole piece is, for that matter..... just masterful.

One of the amazing things about the bass is that you can pop (artificial) harmonics out of almost any string because of the sheer girth of them. Victor is amazing. Met him once... a truly spiritual man with a gift!

i love the harmonics being played this.

Most amazing bass player 😮
@SirGigalot94115 жыл бұрын
Victor appears to have his bass tuned E-A-D-F# (vs. the standard E-A-D-G). He uses mostly 2nd, 3rd, and 4th order harmonics to play the melody on Amazing Grace (over the 5th fret or just behind the 4th fret). In the jazz groove and end tag, he alters the bass line for an alternate chord feel. At the end, he slides the bass note down to the root (G) while he picks the A harmonic at the 5th fret - and "bends" the note up to a B with his tuner. So creative, Victor... love to see it.
@Anythingidontreallycare2 ай бұрын
Nah he’s tuned A-D-G-C (in 4ths, but a 4th higher)

I like how at 3:30 he almost starts messing with the crowd (who has 0 rhythm) but speeding it up to match them them going way out of the crowds ability. That is a good way to not get thrown off beat wise...lol...I am positive that's what he was doing.

accuttly his bass is tuned to "tenor bass" tuning which is a fith higher, its not tuning really its just the strings, you put a A D G C string setting on your bass (same as the 6 string basses first 4 strings) so yea
