I think one of my favorite things about victor, other than how much he genuinely enjoys music, is how he recovers from "wrong" notes. Like at 8:57 he just takes that and works it into the performance like it was always meant to be there. He is an amazing example of how being a good musician isn't about not making mistakes, it's about allowing yourself to build something out of them.
@danilopolar64762 жыл бұрын
There's a video of him telling about improvisation and those "wrong" notes and how to make them fell right you should definitely check out

there's a saying "In jazz, play a wrong note once and it's a mistake. Play it twice, and you're jammin but make sure you don't make it third"
@GokiGandalf11 жыл бұрын
i love how he keeps his cool stuff and uses advanced techniques only on some litlle special moments, which means he is not a show of, but a real player, unlike 99% of todays bass/el.guitar players :D

How he loops the claps over and over then hit hit pedal every now and then to engage it. Just crazy. Almost sounds like a snare.
@jugchug96194 жыл бұрын
His intonation is a pretty advanced technique
@irwinscott4 жыл бұрын
Jug chug what do you mean by intonation?
@nicholasguerra24984 жыл бұрын
I mean, its more a matter of whether you're the kind of player to jam or to just play a song 100% straight everytime and never try and make variations or experiment. Really all it is is showing is time and comfort with your instrument, what some might call mastery. So yea maybe lets not trash talk 99% of musicians for not being masters that started when they were 2 and kept playing into their 50s and 60s

I love it when Victor does those almost "banjoesque" runs on his bass. I guess with all those years of playing Bela Fleck, a lil' banjo must've rubbed off a bit ;) He's always experimenting, trying things, one of the most inventive musicians I can think of. Always fun hearing him play, Go Vic!

There's another, less "lively" video of Victor playing this same tune. He doesn't really play around with the audience as much in his playing, but it's absolutely wonderful video to listen to. His playing in both is masterful - it's clear that bass is second nature to him.
