Quite possibly the most beautiful voice of the second half of the 20th century. No, for me the most beautiful voice of the second half of the century just passed. Her recitals were a joy and one always wished for more. She was a superb Donna Anna, aristocratic and patrician.

Thank you for posting! De Los Angeles was my very first favorite opera singer! I was in Junior High (or maybe early High School; too long ago to remember). I had heard her as Rosina in the studio recording of Barber of Seville, and fell in love! She's still one of my all time favorites!

Amazing. That was exactly my story. 7th or 8th grade. Her Barber of Seville with Vittorio Gui. I was hooked for good. I was lucky to see her several times in recital.

@@cookieglass4264 I heard her only in Bohème, Butterfly and some other operatic recordings. I found her voice dry and her interpretations not overly exciting. Here, she is different. I guess the recital and the art song were her true element. This recital is sublime.

@@AfroPoli The thing about opera is that there are no truths only opinions. I've listened to opera for the last 65 years and I've yet to hear a more sublime Mimi or Butterfly than De Los Angeles, in my opinion. Disagreements are good things because without them there would be a very narrow choice. I agree with your comments on the above recital but, frankly, this is the same level of performance that I've listened to for many years.

Ob es nun die schönste oder beste Stimme ist/ war, diffamiert diese wundervollen Darstellungen. Es sind Geschenke an den wissenden Hörer. Es ist nun einmal so, dass Musikgeschmack erlernt werden muss, aber es gibt auch Töne, die einfach das Herz des Hörers ergreifen. Ich will einfach glauben, dass diese wunderbare Künstlerin diese Töne erschaffen konnte.
