In this video I will show you how to for a mortise and tenon as part of series where I make a washing line crane thing!!!
The design for this build is base on old Victorian ware house cranes. I will be making two mine cranes and a bed that will be used for the washing.
in this video i make some of the tools to make a mortise and tenon joint that a blacksmith would use in this type of project an many other projects.

That is one massive fly press. I'm in lust of your tools. And google eyes really do make a power hammer more friendly, LOL

You really seem to excel at these sorts of projects. It s very fun and interesting to watch you work through issues around traditional joinery. Thanks for sharing.

Your 'googly' eyes, on the power hammer, seem to have developed cataracts - plus that's a dodgy Scottish accent. :0) Dan liked the vid - Dan, I love tool making but seeing those tools used, in a real world situation that's what I really enjoy watching - looking forward to part 2. Cheers.👍

Love that you show how to do this by hand. I have always aggravated my blacksmithing mentors, by stating it is (for me a waste of time practicing much slitting and drifting) for one I am a fabricator, my father taught metallurgy, welding, machine trades, math , science etc. Why don't you do the rest of the slitting under the power hammer? weld a handle on it and a bolster underneath. or get an ironworker and save hours of work. (me) always looking for ways to have custom/forged the fastest & cleanest way possible. It is not lazy using the tools you have_ it is foolish not to .. thank you for showing the proper way, now Forge On!!

Just not sure I'm happy messaging up a load of work for 10mins of time saving. Wasn't much differents in time. I punch lots of holes with the massey but I find that it take practice. If I had messed up the hole I would need to make the up right again and we'll that seems like a waste of time. Thank you for the comment and I agree if you got it uses it lol

Well done Dan. I have also done a bit of slot drifting in 25mm sq and found that I encountered a lot of draw down. Maybe I let it get a bit cold. Its hard work on your own and no power tools. My advice is keep it simple, don't add to much more. KIS and I find less is more anyway. Regards Ned

Nicely done. Definitely giving me some ideas for other joinery, but I'd have to work out easing the punching process for just hand hammer work. Would running a slitter through first be a little easier than just punching the hole?
@danielmoss2089
@danielmoss2089 6 жыл бұрын
The slitter would need to be the same shape as the drift any way. It work well I was just being slow with it. Nice idea dude thank you for the comment
