"Because I'm 5..." made me laugh. I do snow removal at work and I leave the occasional snow angel hiding on the properties I deal with... I know people who can't get up in their full plate armour if they go down, and even when you can, it's about as elegant as you'd expect... :) "I live here now!" made me laugh hard enough to scare the rabbit away.... thank you so much for not editing that out. I've also never been brave enough to try driving in my armour, about the only thing I'm reasonably sure of is that the plates would wreck the car seat. And it was -18C this morning here (0F), so I need my earmuffs and ski gloves... However having done outdoor medieval events where we were getting snowed on all day when itwas just around freezing, wool is all kinds of awesome and even stays warm-ish when wet, unlike cotton.

I'd be happy to ship out some snow to you in Washington state! We got several inches' worth here (past my little dog's tummy, so she refuses to leave the sidewalk to "do her business"). If I could ship a lunchbox-full to my daughter in the Chicago suburbs (or she could probably find enough snow there herself), and we could talk an Amtrak employee into duct-taping the lunchbox of snow to one of the Empire Builder's cars, it could be in Seattle in only 3 days. (On the other hand, that does sound like a rather convoluted plan. Perhaps if you were just to travel far enough east in Washington to see snow, and wave at the Empire Builder as it goes past, you can probably assume that at least some of the snow clinging to it came all the way from Chicago!)

@@LadyRebeccaFashions Yes, way way up on Highway 2/Stephens Pass. Some of the historical things aren't quite as obvious these days, of course, but there are some cool old storefronts and chalets -- and they've got a big ol' rail yard that I've always wanted to see used in a Victorian shoot (if something like that can even be arranged with BNSF or whomever, I don't even know) since the lines of the rails would be such an interesting setting/compositional element. Maybe another historical town would be better than Skykomish proper; it was just the first one I thought of!

@@k2lar Good to know! I've been wanting to do an eastern WA exploration trip in general, to find some of the ghost towns or older pioneer towns and such out there. As far as railyards go, a couple years ago for Snoqualmie Railroad days, they had the train ride (which has a car from 1912) stop at their depot museum, so we got to take some pictures with historic trains in there). Plus the Snoqualmie station in general is very aesthetic looking, too.

You didn't mention having these, and they're a little late for what you were wearing, but I have the Alpen retro winter booties from American Duchess, and they are the best snow shoes I've ever owned. I've spent a lot of time in the snow, and I was even a ski patroller at one point, so I've spent a lot of time in snowboots, and they're the only snowboots I've owned that I actually like and keep my feet warm (including the most expensive ones that were equivalent in price to the AD ones). Because they're made of velvet, the snow sits on top of the pile and brushes right off, even the 'cascade concrete' we get up here in WA that's super wet and dense. Because they're not rubber or plastic, your feet actually stay warm. They're not super tall, so in deep snow you'll get some down the back of the ankle, but because they're lined with wool, it's fine as long as you get the snow out pretty quickly. I've worn them now three times in 2' or deeper snow while clearing snow and walking a lot, and they haven't been damaged in any way from it. I totally get not wanting to risk expensive shoes, but I would think the carriage boots, of they're also velvet might actually work better than modern snow boots. I know my AD boots are waaaaaay better than even the most expensive modern style ones I've owned. It might be worth a try next winter. :)
@LadyRebeccaFashions3 жыл бұрын
Do the Alpen booties have rubber soles? I think the carriage boots are just leather soles.
@emholmes13 жыл бұрын
@@LadyRebeccaFashions yes! They do have rubber soles. I have the 'imperfect' brown ones, but I can't find any imperfections. I should have tried my camilles in the snow to see how the leather sole does, but I'm sure they probably aren't as good as rubber, so that's too bad. Dang! Either way, I was really impressed with the ingenuity of the design, and I was so surprised by how effective they were.

@@emholmes1 That's good to know! I don't think I'll wind up ordering the Alpens at any point, but they are cute! (and I've never found any imperfections in my imperfect AD shoes either)
