I just bought one last Friday when I was in Zürich at Victorinox’ flagship store! Great little knife and after the _Victorinox Compact_ my number two for urban EDC!

Moorlander EDC Definitely worth a visit, as well as Switzerland, is anyway! I can tell you that the Victorinox _Trailmaster_ (or _Trekker_ in the U.S.) is by far the best pocket knife from Victorinox in terms of bushcrafting. However, I'm not very good informed about knife laws in the U.K. and if you can carry this knife with you there! Anyway, we got equipped with the _Soldier 08_ in the army as all recruits got one! the _Soldier 08_ is the military version of the _Trailmaster_. If you need one just for urban areas then I’d rather go with the Victorinox _Compact_ or with this beautiful _Pioneer X_. Because the _Soldier 08_ didn't have a pair of scissors I Always carried a _Compact_ with me as well during my national service! 😊

This is going to be my next acquisition from Victorinox. I've lost two Farmers and the Pioneer X will replace the last one I've lost. Hopefully will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Very nice store. It was smaller than I expected but they had a nice selection of products. They also have a smaller store in Rockefeller plaza. They’re both worth visiting.

I love that flagship store!! Last year I scored a red Compact there and the year before a Climber Gold 2016 Rio Olympics limited edition. Next time I go to NY, I'll definitely buy another one.

Nice review, good presentation and clear thoughts and video. I have a Super Tinker and recently looked at owning another one so looked at the Tinker and Recruit. Recruit is interesting for me since its slightly smaller but what's nice is the smooth full scales back and front. Randomly stumbled upon a video reviewing all time SAKs and did not know of this model, which is great since it reminds me of the Super Tinker but with the full scale back (comfortable to hold) so I am gonna grab one. Hope I like it as much, both Super Tinker and Pioneer X might be life long companions.

Sorry about the delayed reply. Older messages I haven't replied to have just magically appeared in my comments tab. There's been so many different variations over the years. I've found a few recently that seemed perfect to me however they stopped making that version a decade ago. I think one day I'll make the trip down to London and visit the SAK store there and make my own dream SAK... The Moorlander Special :D

I got this Pioneer X and later onthe Compact for urban EDC. While the Compact has a ton more tools than the Pioneer X, I just love the feel and the stylishness of the Pioneer X more, so I gave the Compact to a family member. There is something comforting about the alox scales, you know?

100% agree on the scales. I like the cellidor ones however the Alox scales take way more of a beating before they look battered. Have an awesome weekend

Now where talking this is the best one for me if this one had the saw it would be a outstanding allrander EDC just might have to get this one because after some time the red plastic scales get a little lose so I'm really interested in the aloxs alley scales really interesting by the way I've subscribed to your channel great information about great tools 👍

Thanks for a good review. It’s now made me wonder if Victorinox could do a hybrid of the Pioneer X and the Farmer and essentially replace the awl on the X with the wood saw from the Farmer. That for me would be ideal for the outdoors

@@MoorlanderEDC apropos of nothing I’ve been fiddling about with my Swiss champ today- you know the behemoth of all saks, and I’d forgotten how good it is. Weighty and not a pocket tool but useful in a backpack. Agree on the can opener - perhaps get the combo one used in say the compact

I'll hopefully pick this up this year to review. I think the farmer x is probably the upper limit on the amount of functions I'd want on a SAK. The only thing for me to not own an alox model is main blade not locking, the weird looking position of rivets & absence of scale tools.⛑😌

Yeah, I know it's puts people off but the slip joint is pretty much universally legal and easy to maintain. The spring tension system really does keep fast in place. They're reasonably cheap and worth a punt. Thanks for watching buddy 🤙

Does the bottle opener lock?

It has the same semi locking system that the knife has. It's held very tightly in place, however there isn't a frame lock style system to keep it in place. I've never had any worries about it, if that makes sense. Thanks for watching 👍

My ideal SAK would be a classic SD tool set in the size of a Pioneer. I don't need a bottle opener or reamer.

Hey Tom. It's unusual (in a nice way) to find someone who'd keep the can opener over the bottle opener. I don't think I've ever used the can opener ever. I've used the reamer a handful of times however I don't think I'd miss it if it wasn't there. I just wish they'd do a Pioneer and take off the can opener and replace with scissors... kinda like the X here, but not needing a third tool slot. @@MoorlanderEDC Sorry, meant to include the can opener on the list of tools I don't need! I don't think anyone has used the can opener on a SAK for a legitimate purpose since the 1950 lol. I just think a blade, scissors and nail file/cleaner in 93mm would be so ideal for me. I rarely drink so no need for a bottle opener. Your idea with the pioneer sounds like a cool knife too!

Sounds like the Alox Cadet, with the opener layer switched out with scissors. If you wanted that strongly enough, you might look into a custom mod to build it.

@@matthewpittman2481 Thanks for the suggestion. The only issue with the cadet is that it is not a 93mm SAK, meaning it does not have the thicker, stronger, longer tools that the pioneer series have. I would love to mod a pioneer X though.
