Victorinox Ratchet Kit

The Victorinox ratchet kit and extension is a mini ratchet kit that I have only recently had the pleasure to try out. I have found it to be an incredibly EDC friendly option for those that like the extra capability of having a 1/4" drive ratchet and a decent selection of bits to work with or independent of your multi tool of choice.

I put a piece of double wall shrink tubing on the ratchet shaft. The double wall heat shrink has a bullet proof adhesive that melts to the surface of the ratchet when heated with a heat gun. It's bullet proof material and aids in a great grip on the ratchet when using the bottom for a hand driver.

you can add the extension into the ratchet side for a "T" handle when your driving screws inline for some more torque. You can also add the extension into the bit holder on the end when your ratcheting to add some length to the handle.

@@MrMagicman00100 If you put the extension bar onto the ratchet head, you can use the it to turn the screwdriver; somewhat like an alan wrench.

I've always wondered about this one. I've seen pictures on line of people using two of the bit carriers an sliding them together to carry both the ratchet and L driver. It's definitely a kit that gives you some options to build what you want especially with a little diy engineering. Great review 👍

Regarding the point you made about pocketing - if you purchase an additional bit case, you can fold them together if the 6mm hex bit is in. This makes everything sit flush, safe against losing bits, *and* gives you an additional snap slot for the extension. Everything thus becomes much more pocketable, which allows carrying of the tool and the bit kit loose in a bag pocket rather than a pouch.

If you bought grid paper and used it as a background for your tools, we can get an idea of their size/dimensions, and would make your videos look more uniform with a uniform backdrop. Also, I like that you are looking into the EDC world, there will be many a folk liking these new videos.

As much as I love the convenience of a ratchet I think the double ended L wrench is a better fit for me. I'm in England so carrying a full sized locking multitool is tricky. I've found what's best for me is a Victorinox handyman carried with a "OneTigris Easy Carry Wallet" used as a slim, flat pocket organiser to carry a pair of Knipex Corba 125's, a Bic lighter, an L wrench with some bits in a cut down rubber bit sleeve, a folded up tailors tape measure and some flat rolled duct tape. Put together I get most of my tools in the Handyman and the full sized pliers and driving capabilities are in my organiser in my back pocket. Plus the extra room in the organiser to have my lighter tucked away and a few extra useful items. I'm hoping it'll serve me well as my "Go everywhere tool kit". Got to say I love your videos man, keep doing what you're doing!

@@txtoolcrib It's great for an organiser that will actually fit in a normal pocket (unlike options like the Maxpedition micro). Carries a few smaller EDC items side by side, flat, secure, doesn't jangle about and has some card sleeves inside for the likes of duct tape, a fresnel lens, bandaids, tape measure etc... Come to think of it, it would be perfect for that Victorinox ratchet setup with a little room to spare.

There is a way to carry the extension … in the pouch they include, there’s literally a spot made specifically for it

I love it. Should have bought it much sooner. It is the lightest ratchet with a length of about 10cm. Just weighs 31g. Normal mini ratchets weigh easily 50, nice ones like the Wera weigh about 100g I use rubber bands for my Vic Ratchet that I cut off from old bike tubes. The handle gets two of them to hold the extension - or in my case a normal bit holder. A normal bit holder has a longer shank which I can push further in the Vic ratchet to create a much better t- handle. Also you can use the shank that is sticking out in the same way other ratchets offer the small wheel (?) to turn the screws in before they need more torque.

Did you drive in screws without the extender? You think the bit is secured tight enough to not get pushed through the rachted when you push on the screw you are driving in? Really like to know. I’m not shure with one to get. The victorinox or the Topeak Ratchet Rocked DX.

HI.. to all EDC GROUP.. I like all the EDC Tool.. and alwiz use it for my work... all the brand i like... but in my opinion the price victorinox and leatherman multitool in malaysia are very expensive and crazy... better buy from china multitool coz i can easy buy it a 3 or 4 times if the multitool broken... the price its ok and reasonable...

At 6:39 If you put the extension on the other side of the ratchet, the bit kit has a spot that the extension rests tightly on it. That means, that you can carry them all together as one kit.

I found that the extension sticks out a bit far in that orientation. I think I may have found a solution for myself though.

Awesome. I just got my swiss tool x with the ratchet. When I put in the extender it locked THIGHT. I had to look up this video to see if i was suppose to just pull it out to not damage the ratcher. It locks crazily. Awesome Edit: the swiss tool x comes with a leather pouch in which you can both store the multitool and the ratchet (including the bits and extender)

You might make the kit more compact by placing the bits inside a straw or other thin wall tube instead of using the red plastic holder. Cheers.

You talk about knurling but you don't show that the extension is also made to put it in the ratchet itself for lever? 😳 Then you can grab the long shaft and turn it as a crank with the other hand..

put some heat shrink around the extension, then use one or more rubber bands to wrap the extension into the rest of the kit.

Another one you might want to check out if you haven't already is the "PowerTorque" mini ratchet that you can get at some O'Reilly Auto Parts stores. It's literally the exact same ratchet as in the Topeak ratchet sets, but at half the price because of the different branding. As small as it is, it still has a proper switch for changing directions. Made in Taiwan. I've never owned a Victorinox or Chapman ratchet, so I can't say how the quality compares, but it does seem to be well-made.

@@txtoolcrib No problem. I've quickly found that the bits that come with it are too polished and slippery, making removing them from the ratchet difficult. Yesterday I swapped them for some bits with a more rough satin finish, and they're much better. The ratchet itself seems solid so far.
