Having a Tinker in my pocket has saved me many steps - not having to fetch a screwdriver mainly. Inexpensive enough that I don't mind using it for tasks I wouldn't with other knives, though it is rare that I use the tinker for a knife chore. It is the easiest carrying multi-tool I've ever used. You are exactly correct about their gift-ability. It is a capable and versatile little pocket knife.

The Tinker is my favorite. My first Swiss Army Knife was a Tinker. A lot of SAK lovers do not like the Phillips head on the back side! I have no idea why? I love it. I have used it extensively with great success and I am sometimes reluctant to carry a SAK that does not have one.

I bought myself a Fieldmaster late last year, which is basically a Tinker plus scissors, a saw and the parcel hook. While I have another knife in my collection with a much higher sentimental value, I find myself carrying the Fieldmaster far more often because of the sheer number of things I can do with it. Each tool goes through their various seasons of use, but all of them are useful enough that I just can’t bear being away from the house without them being handy.

Great discussion! I have several Tinkers and they are great. I really prefer to have scissors on my Victorinox knives, so I tend to carry the Compact the most, followed by the Super Tinker (I added translucent green plus scales), and then the Fieldmaster. Nope... has to have scissors and a metal/nail file... so my favorite 91mm is a the retired Trail Guide... and I've built a few customs Trail Guides... swapped the corkscrew with a Phillips screw driver, and added a magnifying glass & Phillips screwdriver layer to another. And my long time favorite is the retired old 74mm Executive that has large & small blades, scissors, nail file/clearn, and orange peeler/flat head screwdriver.

I somewhat agree. It'd a great 2nd knife to carry, but you have limited capabilities when it comes to self defense or cooking/bushcraft. Nothing beats a fix blade for those things..for edc around the house.,the tinker handles most tasks. I have one in my bag now

Fixed blades are great for Bushcraft etc, but for those quick EDC jobs a SAK makes a great option or perfect second knife.

I carried a Tinker exclusively for over 40 years.. I've lost some, given some away and ruined two, but I've never broken one. It's still 1/3 of my EDC rotation. Possibly one of the top 3 EDC tools ever made. The Super Tinker and a few Leathermans might beat it out.

I also really like a Tinker plus a Classic SD or Rambler. The 58mm knife on the keys doesn't feel like I'm carrying an extra knife. And the combo gives me everything good about the Tinker, plus nail file and scissors, and a great little inline Phillips on a Rambler.

@@J.O.VenturesOutdoors happy to sub for good conversations like these. I carry a 5 layer sak on the same titanium clip.
