I love this scene but also,, this scene is SO painfully inaccurate in its depiction of narcolepsy,, it’s literally the reason I wasn’t diagnosed until age 20 🙃
@The.LavaStorm15 күн бұрын
I know it's made to be wildly exaggerated and stereotyped, but this scene is actually the reason I got diagnosed. I saw it and I knew it was supposed to be dramatized and funny, but watching it made me cry instead since it's pretty much how my bad days can look - especially how they did look before meds. I didn't fall as quickly and dramatically, but the sleep attacks mid-conversation standing up, the panicked "I'm up" every time someone woke me or teased me about sleeping, the confusion about reality when newly awake to the point where words got mixed up or I was talking gibberish due to still being half asleep, the self blaming etc. It isn't that inaccurate for some of us, I think the main issue is that the representation and information out there is so lacking and undynamic, and that sleepiness is so associated with laziness, that we are constantly shamed and minimized when vocalizing our sleep and energy issues. Still took me 6-7 years to get diagnosed, so spreading information about the disorder is really important so more of the undiagnosed ones of us get the help they need

bro I know 😭😭😭 this scene is literally the reason I wasn’t diagnosed until I was almost 21. like, my entire understanding of narcolepsy was this scene and I was like “well i’m not like that, so”
@The.LavaStorm15 күн бұрын
This scene is actually the reason I got diagnosed. To some of us it's actually decently accurate with just some dramatized effects. The problem isn't the inaccuracy in this scene, it's the lack of dynamic representation and information, and also the shame and "lazy" label attached to being overly tired and falling asleep "inappropriately"

I know you're just reuploading, but the people who made this show... Let me put it this way: I actually have narcolepsy. That's not an accurate definition or portrayal. It's actually really hurtful that this neurological condition- one that they admit ruins lives- is being ruined as a punch line. Again. The people who wrote this script and the producers that approved it should have known better... "How can you love a sleepy loser like me?" Hearing that was like a punch in the gut. You wouldn't laugh like that at cancer or epilepsy. Narcolepsy isn't a joke either. If there's more context to this scene that I don't know about, please let me know. Also, I hope you did well on your final exam.
