It was heard and changed. The whole map had been reworked after the 2nd patch. No more monopoly style. Are there any other wishes? :) 3 months of idea implementation are still planned and welcome at steam. The german campaign will be available next week. No more fictional german ships in the Allied campaign. New early game corvette "Flower-class Mk1", 2 new U-Boote: Typ VII-B and Typ XIV "milkcow" and most important: the most bugs will be history.

There's a real problem with supposedly realistic strategy games making the player micromanage everything. IRL no one person was managing infrastructure and convoys and task forces and patrols and fighter deployments and radar intercepts because that's impossible. You can either focus on a highly detailed simulation of one aspect of the war, or have the player wear several hats but abstract everything so that it's actually manageable. It looks like they chose the latter approach but got the abstractions wrong. Makes no sense that you have to manually setup patrols for every squadron whilst simultaneously managing infrastructure and the overall strategy of the atlantic war. The AI should be able to handle the day to day, with the option for you to intervene if necessary.

Just FYI, referring to a sailor as "part of the army" will get you punched in pretty much any country except the PRC (and maybe even there).

I wasn't reffering to an ordinary sailor, the Kriegsmarine is a part of the German army even to this day... they don't just sail around, they have an intended purpouse... for war. If they are not part of the armed forces, what are they then? I mean, a sailor for sure, on an aircraft carrier is just a sailor, but a soldier too... what is a sailor on a nuclear submarine then? Soldier. I believe that he is a soldier. A sailor goes fishing, an army core sailor goes waging war. Put some mind to it, mate, it's not the same.

I know its an old game Mack but can you review Star Wars Empire at War, especially modded? (EaW Expanded/Thrawns Revenge?) Even though its old it still looks great and doesn't feel dated for the most part and I'd like to know your opinion on it, it has lots of recent reviews and 30K reviews now on Steam and a certain popularity.

The Combat is utterly broken. The Ships artillery basically consits of slow firing laser cannons. Hit probability is around 98%. So the only thing that wins battles is the range of you guns and spotting range. The only thing thats more broken is the Auto Resolve. Merchants get attacked by a light cruiser? Dont you worry, those salty sailors give the CL a beating and sink it outright. Tried to defend your Convoi against subs but didn't find those buggers? Retreat from combat and find out, that you infact still managed to sink all of them without firing a shot. Honetly, I had fun with Victory at sea pacific. I though they'd just copy over the basic mechanics. How they failed this bad with combat is bejond me. But hey, its early access, right?

There has to be an exciting game based on the hunt for the Bismarck or the Scharnhorst, or even a U-boat game that isn't horrendously dull. However the problem is that battleships have crews of 1-2 thousand people each doing something rather boring towards a single goal. So yeah, it has to auto-resolve, because turning the hours-long leadup into an arcade style shooter when contact is made is ridiculous. Bake in the fact that real-life encounters were often ended with a single lucky shot (HMS Hood, countless examples at Jutland) and you're going to have some very unrewarding gameplay. I did enjoy Wolfpack on the ST back in the day, but that was on a much smaller scale - U-boats have smaller crews, wolfpacks were only 6 boats IIRC. So, erm, my vote is for Wolfpack with good graphics. Hedgehogs away!!!

One detail. Sorry have to point it out. Ireland wasn't in WW2. It was neutral. So no idea why the game has it that the UK mainland and Ireland is the same colour. Or why Belfast is called Ireland. If the was WW1 combat then all would be good. I think if you were in trouble you could land in the Irish coast. But they had no bases for the war against Germany.

Just tested Hearts of Iron IV on steam today since free weekend and all that, it's a whole training course just to do the damn tutorial, not for me, sorry. The micromanagement in some of these games is too much!! You can't delegate !! Stellaris is logical, Terra Invicta is crazy deep but at least you don't have to manage the production of rifles and ammo if you control a whole planet amd later the solar system.
