Sevastopol was liberated and the Allies finally defeat Germany. Viewers also witness the meeting of Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin for final plans for Germany's surrender and the forming of the United Nations. At the end, Hitler commits suicide, and Nazi flags are torn apart and German military uniforms and hats lie on the ground, discarded. However, compelling footage of German cities in ruins make this one of the most somber episodes of Victory at Sea.

My son is currently in Marine Corps boot camp. His paternal grandfather, my father, served in the Pacific with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. His maternal great grandfather was in the Soviet Army where he died at Leningrad in 1942.

Just thought I'd give my two cents to the discussion here... I am probably one of the few Americans who can truthfully say that they had relatives on both sides of WW2. My Great-Grandfather was in the battle of the bulge (he was assigned to Patton's army,) and my Great-Uncle was a German sniper on the Eastern Front. My Great Uncle (the German sharpshooter) was killed by Soviet soldiers in Poland in 1944. My Great-Grandfather (the soldier in patton's army) survived the war. As far as I know, they never met each other. That all being said, I am glad that the allies won the Second World War. It is true that I wish my Great-Uncle could have come home, but I believe that the cause he was fighting for was an unjust one. People will sometimes point out the ''economic improvements'' that the Nazis made to Germany, and it is true that they brought the German nation out of a severe depression, but it was done on the back of slave labor and the bones and blood of their innocent victims. Furthermore, whatever economic improvements were made to Germany were completely undone by the destruction caused by the war. It bothers me to see the rise of extreme nationalist/fascist organizations around the world, because in my family, we remember all too well the destruction caused the last time people turned to extreme solutions to their problems - the human cost of the Second World War was over 60 million dead, and untold economic destruction in uncountable numbers of dollars was also a huge cost of the war. The allied nations were far from perfect, as the the USSR was also inherently unfree, and the British Empire surpressed dissent ruthlessly in its colonies, such as india. Furthermore, it is true that the world we live in today has its share of problems, and it is true that today's world is still feeling the effects of the second world war. However, I firmly believe that the world today would be a much worse place had the Axis powers won the Second World War Anyone is free to disagree with me on all, or any of these points, and they are free to do so - every human being is entitled to his or her own opinions, regardless of what others think or may say. And that is what freedom is truly about - having the right and ability to say what you believe, to speak your mind, no matter what other people think. And that is why it is a good thing that the allies won the Second World War - if the Axis had won, people would not be free to believe whatever they feel is right - we would all simply have to follow the whims of an all-powerful leader, and dissent would be ruthlessly surpressed.

My Dad was in this push from France to the Rhine. He was severely wounded by the NAZIs in Dec 1944. I was born about 7 years after all of this in this episode. I still remember seeing the wreck of Europe being rebuilt on TV (yes, we had TV in the 1950s) and in films, and being told about there being no brick on top of another brick in some villages -- IN WINTER. I don't want anymore NAZIs in control, especially in the USA. My Dad would scream bloody murder to see what we face now.

Yes so join the destruction of Antifa and the NAZI funded SOROS terrorist groups and support President Trump. Never forget Hillary Clinton was fully thrilled with the Eugenics Movement in the USA! Shall I keep going with ID of the NAZI's in the USA!

Hitler made two very glowing errors that the Third Reich dearly 1. Lack of a four Engined bomber. 2 Sadly underestimating the United States, a mistake that Yamamoto did not make

It was divided among the allies. The Americans, British & French took the West, while the Soviet Union took the East.
