Thank you for the video, the torque specs and advice to clean the bolt holes out. My gear did not come out by hand. I used some short tire irons and carefully positioned them as to be sure not to damage the casing while I pry'd out the stock timing gear. I also lubed the new timing gear and the area of the shaft it is installed on. I then had to tap the gear into place using a piece of wood & rubber mallet. Thanks again, Harvey

Just wanted to say thanks for all your informative and insightful vids on the XCT. I picked up my 2012 XCT since last 9/2014 (3098 miles). I've learned quite a bit from the VOG and your Vids. I just did the timing wheel swap today(Adjusters torqued to 84 in/lbs.) and with the cored exhaust and the O2 sensors disconnected, took her for a good tour this afternoon and WOW!! what a difference . Btw In the Ottawa area. Looking forward to doing more mods!

Garth Buswell Hi Garth, wow finally someone in my area. Did my first ride today, 70 kms to the Timmys at March Road and Carling. I will probably be out all day tomorrow, should be a great day. Thanks for watching my videos, just did one today on how to change the oil and filter, it should be available any second now. Ride safe.

To keep the engine from turning simply put the bike in gear and have someone hold the front brake on tight while you tighten the center bolt. No special tools needed and especially no prying against any internal engine parts.

Don't really think you need the brake. 17 foot lbs is not a lot

Put my wheel on today. I bet I found why the bolts are stripping and the lowering of the torque specs. I bought my wheel 2nd hand and while turning the nuts I noticed one bolt was starting to back out. When that nut is tightened all the pressure is against the few threads in the wheel and nothing distributed to the bolt head. Good idea to check to see if those bolts are tight first. .... And don't over tighten!!

Very professional. I just bought an 07 Hammer with the 100 cu in motor and i believe the installation is different. The only critique i have is instead of using a q tip to clean out the threads use a thread chaser. They will have threads looking clean and brand new.

Ok plan on doing the wheel. I also already installed lloyds filter, and pulled the baffles out of mufflers, welded the exhaust ends back on so looks stock. My dilemma is can't decide wether go with PCV or Lloyds fuel tuner? Have you heard which is best for the buck? Or I imagine I'll have to get dyno regardless Future plan is triovals when funds support.
@PaulPomerleau8 жыл бұрын
With your filter and exhaust work done you have really increased the air flow so a fuel controller is definitely the next thing you should do. People have had luck with auto tunes and such but if you really want to get the most out of your machine then bring it to a tuner who knows Victorys. They have the tuner that is right for your bike. Sounds like you are going to have a sweet ride. Have fun.
@jamesmccracken47635 жыл бұрын
So you don’t have to drain the oil to swap it? I’m going to use a Maximus tuner so no need for one but I need to check to see if I already have one from the previous owner. I removed the 6 emblem plate to install another and the two bolts behind it are not there so I’m wondering if a timing wheel was installed.
@PaulPomerleau5 жыл бұрын
No need to drain the oil for this job. The original timing wheel is a solid piece of metal and just has a center bolt only, so easy to distinguish from the variable timing wheel.

hi Paul. I have a problem with my Vance and Hines slip ons on my 2015 Victory XC. One of the slip on turning black and other one stays clear... do you know why is that?
@PaulPomerleau8 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about soot on the inside at the exhaust tip?
@ruslanzadyrka30568 жыл бұрын
yeah. its kind of strange. its only one side
@PaulPomerleau8 жыл бұрын
On the Cross Country bikes the 2 headers joins together before going out the right side pipe, so this is the dominant pipe and most likely will get the most soot. Just after they join there is a cross over to the left pipe. It will give some exhaust but not as much as the right. Soot is normal and you can simply wipe it away, but if you are concerned about it then check both spark plugs to see if they look the same, if they are both black and sooty then you are running rich.

Thanks for the reply, I bought this bike and it was already dynoed, my problem is there is no dyno shop at all in my area. My PCV is at 5+ on 0 & 2% throttle 2500 -6000 rpm range. So if I change this to 0 when I install ATW, AT 5+ I'M hoping everything would run the same with the bike. I feel if i do this it should now be 5+ across the board right? My AFR is 13.5 which I like so hope it stays this way. Any thoughts? Should I just n leave the bike as is since there no dyno here, or this changes make since? Thanks
@PaulPomerleau10 жыл бұрын
You are correct when you say a wheel set at +5 will be across the board. So setting your PCV to zero should keep the upper RPM the same as you have now, and also increase the timing under 2500. The wheel is one of the mods that everyone tends to start with as it is relatively inexpensive. I don't want to tell you what to do, but I would go for it, as I love working on my bike.

Quick question: I understand that as of today, Lloydz is recommending the less f.t lbs of torque for the two smaller bolts etc. Question, do you put Locktite on the small bolts as well? What’s the recommendation for foot lbs for center bolt?
@PaulPomerleau7 жыл бұрын
The latest torque specs is 17 ft/lbs for the center bolt and 6-8 ft/lbs for the adjustment bolts. I used the lower amount of 6 ft/lbs. I put blue locktite on the center bolt and did not use any locktite on the adjustment bolts. I initially set it to +4, then tried +6 and didn't like it so went back to +4. Others have done different things, this works good for me.

Also, Another question. What’s recommended for the torque lbs for tightening back the hex bolts that hold the cam shaft?
@PaulPomerleau7 жыл бұрын
You mean the 6 bolts that hold the cover back on? They are 115 in/lbs (that's inch pounds) they are not very tight. Make sure your pick-up wiring doesn't get pinched and also watch that same spot when you start up your bike for oil leaks. If the wire seal is not proper it will leak from there.
@davidfowler21246 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul...would you recommend disconnecting the o2 sensors with this timing wheel application ? Thx
@PaulPomerleau6 жыл бұрын
You don't need to just because you have a timing wheel. I added the timing wheel to give me more low end torque. I disconnected the O2 sensors to richen the engine and make it run a bit cooler. Mine is a 2014 model so my sensors have only 2 wires. But Polaris changed them on the 2016 (I think) models to a newer 4 wire sensor and now if you simply unplug them you will get a engine trouble light come on. If you have 4 wires you must put a bypass plug on, one for each sensor. They are available at any place they sell the Power Commander modules. Hope this helps.

Thx Paul.mine is a 12.

Hi Paul, I have the same bike as you. I was advised on NOT getting the timing wheel with my other mods (PCV, cams) as it is not necessary with the PCV. WAs this correct advice?
@PaulPomerleau7 жыл бұрын
Although I don't have a Power Commander on my bike, there are many who have it with the timing wheel as the PCV changes everything above 2500 rpm and the timing wheel changes everything below 2500 rpm. With the newer Maximus tuner it can do the entire range so a timing wheel is no necessary with it. However you should send a message to Rylan at the Vic Shop as he is the pro on these things and he can give you the exact information. Hope this helps. Ride safe. Paul.

@808xcountry510 жыл бұрын
Do you need to adjust Power Commander V if you install this timing gear.? Wanna install one, great video thanks.
@PaulPomerleau10 жыл бұрын
Although I am no expert in fuel controllers, a lot of people are doing it to waken up the bike. The thing I would watch for is the added timing from the PCV. The timing wheel (ATS) adds timing throughout the entire range, whereas the PCV adds it above 2500 rpm. So if your wheel is at +4 and your PCV is +4 then once you go above 2500 rpm you will be at +8. So watch for this. The best thing to do after installing these devices is to get a good dyno done.

i got the wheel on 4 advance and also the fuel controller and confusing if i should go lower on the wheel back to 2 advance or go more 5 or 6 advance , bike is coughing in air filter
@christophertharp77639 жыл бұрын
did you make the proper adjustments on your torque wrench when you added the extension?
@PaulPomerleau9 жыл бұрын
christopher tharp I believe you only have to recalculate the torque settings when you change the actual length of the wrench, for example adding a crows foot to the ratchet end, or a pipe to the end of the handle. A socket at the end of an extension is still in line with the ratchet end and doesn't affect the length of the torque wrench.

Hi Paul, My XC 2014 is getting unbearable hot to the level that I cannot sit on it. Could it be because of timing? did your setup had influence on temperature?
@PaulPomerleau5 жыл бұрын
It did but very little, what I felt really cooled it down was disconnecting the oxygen sensors. Of course I have no hard data to prove this, it's just how I felt while riding. You could always try it to see how it works for you and simply plug them back in if you need to. Watch my video on how I did mine. Ride safe and have fun.

I recently purchased the Lloyds timing gear…..your video is great. I have a question……My Victory Crossroads is bone stock. I’m a little nervous to make this modification along with disconnecting the O2 sensors. Have you had any issues? Would you reconsider doing those two modifications? Thanks Paul for any input
@PaulPomerleau3 жыл бұрын
My timing wheel is still installed and my O2 sensors are still disconnected. It works well for me. You may find different results. What year is your bike? If you have 4 wires going to your O2 sensor then you have the newer ones with heaters that are monitored by the ECU and you will not be able to simply disconnect them without throwing a code. You will need a resistor plug which are available at cycle shops. I think the 4 wire sensors started around the 2016 model year.

@@PaulPomerleau So I installed the new timing wheel. You’re video made it super simple even though I was super nervous. I set the timing wheel to plus 4. Did you notice just a little more power or were you like wow what a difference……..I’m thinking about trying +5. I appreciate your input 😀

what is the benefit of this? I'm new to motorcycles and just got a victory and been watching lots of videos
@PaulPomerleau3 жыл бұрын
Companies have to follow EPA regulations about emission control. To do this they de-tune the motor so it runs lean. This causes loss of power and a hotter running motor. Putting on a power fuel module and having it professionally turned is the best way to wake up the motor, but is also the most expensive. A cheaper alternative is to install this adjustable timing wheel. For my bike a +4 degree setting made all the difference.

Hey Paul, u on the VOG site? I'm catpGPflorida on VOG. I have the same bike as you do. Big gorilla in the corner question is. Does the timing change void the factory warranties? I have a 4 yr extended warranty on my XCT. I am looking to cool down the bike. In 90 degree F weather our bikes run hot in Florida. Like to upgrade some mods, yet not screw up my warranty. Any feedback would be great from all. Gp
@PaulPomerleau9 жыл бұрын
George Pinon Hey George, yes I am on the VOG, username PaulJP. My experience with warranties and insurance companies is they will try to find any reason not to pay a claim. So that leaves you with two choices, either you do the changes then put it back to stock before bringing it in for warranty work, or you wait until your warranty is up. I have heard on one forum that someone had a power commander on his bike and the company refused to pay for any work. For me, I don't believe in warranties, I do what I want on my vehicles. For you, if you want to be 100% safe, then unfortunately you are going to have to leave your bike stock. If you have a good dealer and get along well with them, then ask them if you can do any changes to your bike, they may be ok with it. That's the only answer I can give you my friend. Ride safe and have fun.

Was curious about which torque wrench(es) you are using. Since you used both inch pound and foot pound torque setting, was curious whether you you used 1 wrench or 2. Let me know.
@PaulPomerleau10 жыл бұрын
Currently I have 4 torque wrenches, ranging from small inch pounds all the way up to the big one that can do car axle nuts. I buy them as required for each job and find I have enough for pretty well all jobs I do now. I don't pay cheap but also I don't buy the real expensive ones either. I really like the digital ones as they are easy to read and you can convert the settings on the fly. Very handy but a bit more money and also a bit bulkier. When I bought them, I would first search the internet to see who had the best deal. In this particular video I am only using the digital wrench for the gear and cover. It goes from 90-440 in-lb (7.5-37 ft-lb) and can convert to Nm, ft-lb, in-lb, kg-cm, kg-m. I really like this wrench.
