Six of my eight great-grandparents emigrated to the USA from Western Finland (primarily Central and South Ostrobothnia) in the late 1800s, when it was still under Russian rule. They, my Finnish American grandparents, and even my own parents are now all long deceased. Thankfully, they don't have to witness the latest schemes of this insane Russian tyrant who is not content in merely attempting to conquer yet another independent country, but also feels the need threaten our own ancestral homeland once more.

@@dematriusdemarcusiii7130 Thank you, he indeed was. He was in the Imperial Russian army before the war, as a cavalry officer. My great grandfather also fought in the Winter war and continuation war, Artillery officer. He was hit in the head with schrapnel and went into a coma for 9 months, survived though. Some of the stories he told were amazing, and horrifying might i add. And my grandfather kept up the military service legacy. Joining the Finnish army as a Jäger, he then went on to Cyprus as a volunteer. Leading around 300 Jägers. I cannot wait for my military service, only a couple months till i join up as a Jäger myself, then the plan is to educate myself as an officer.

With a military bearing, the Finns were not very good. Except for Mannerheim. He has a Russian Life Guards school.
@teemup92473 жыл бұрын
Mannerheim indeed gained most of skills in Russian cavarly schools anf wars (and like year in French cavarly school before ww1). What made Finnish military "succesful" was Mannerheims (and other Imperial Russian officers such as General of artillary Vilho nenonen) Russian style combination withe Jaeger officer trained by Imperial German army. This also created tension as some things were done very differently, but the combination of both made the Finnish military and especially its officer training very good.

Well the country was 1 year old and it's own armed forces were quite fresh too, considering the damned circumstances.. (Russia holding back Finlands right to form their own army) until prussian trained jägers (and ww1 vets took over training) and BEAR IN MIND that even before finns had their freedom, they volunteered for Russo-Turkish wars and help liberate Balkans from the Ottomans. Most of those guys were not czar's officers but ordinary rifle men and damned good at it. Read about battles of Pleven and Gorni/Dalni Dapnik.
