13 years ago, this video was what got me into anime. As a kid I'd sit and replay it over and over, then look at pics and reviews of a the toy I would never own. Now I sit and watch it on repeat again as I play with the Haslab (and the MP before it!).

So starsaber transforms from a jet to two jets and then one jet becomes a body of a robot and another robot becomes the head of that one and then that one transforms into the body of a bigger robot that combines with another robot to form victory saber. whats with combining to a jet first

Fun fact:this inverts the trope of another bot becoming Optimus prime's power shrooms. As Leo is rebuilt from ginrai (Optimus Prime)

Ginrai is not optimus completely separate characters. Ginrai was a tramsector meant to be a body for optimus/convoy that ended up turning Ginrai the human into a God master

Victory Saber’s function is Ultimate Supreme Commander rather than just Supreme Commander because he is the combination of both the present (Star Saber) and former (Victory Leo, the rebuilt God Ginrai) Supreme Commanders. With this combination, Star Saber power and capabilities got doubled and in additional to his own weapon, the Saber Blade and Saber Rifle, he now had access to Leo’s powers and weapons, the V-Rifle, Leo’s big gun and V-Lock cannons, Leo’s detachable shoulder cannons. The only weakness he had was that he also inherited Leo’s loose cannon personality so even though Star Saber is controlling the whole combination, he needs to keep his emotions in check or else he may make decisions that he might regret and that’s what Perceptor had tried to warn him of its complications. Victory Saber continued to be a thorn in the Decepticons flesh to the end of the series overpowering every Decepticon fighter with relative ease. Deszaras (twice), DinoKing (once) and even LioKaiser (3 times) were all dominated by Victory Saber’s overwhelming power and even the Space Fortress eventually fell to this deadly combination. That was how OP he was.

@@migovas1483He was meant to be a power-up for Star Saber. There were plans to Victory Leo as an individual being but the plans have to change due to God Ginrai’s having suffered mortal injuries at the hands of Deathsaurus. Due to a slip of tongue by Perceptor and Wheeljack, Ginrai learnt of Star Saber’s reconstruction power-up design and seeing that Star Saber had trouble dealing with both Deathsaurus and LioKaiser, he made the choice to be subjected to the project so that Star Saber can get the power boost he needed to battle the Decepticons.

I think, after handling Victory Saber, why I'm drawn to him more than God Ginrai or, pfff, Dai Atlas (and why I'm not thoroughly impressed with Victory Saber's successor). The combination of Kunio Okawara's design that gives him the Gundam feel he exudes, and that he's the most Super Robot-y of the Japanese G1 leaders, and of course, being of Transformers, he just hits that perfect intersection.

The American cartoon universe ended with the Rebirth (Season 4) and no new shows were made (Except for edited reruns narrated by a live action Optimus or crappy CGI) until Beast Wars. In Japan they continued making the show, the last G1 show before the Beast Era was the one episode OVA Transformers Zone.

Same universe actually, or really the Japanese version of the Universe. Optimus is replaced by Rodimus in Headmasters when he merges with Vector Sigma to save Cybertron. Cybertron gets destroyed eventually, Rodimus leaves in search of a new planet and giant city Transformer Fortress Maximus becomes leader, the war ends. Its starts again in Masterforce, Ginrai, a human truck driver becomes the Godmaster of Optimus's body and becomes leader. The war returned in this series with Star Saber leading.
