Literally the exact same thing happened to me about an hour ago. Seems to be a common problem I guess. Very helpful video. Thanks

The problem with putting new chips in is there could be other damage caused by over-voltage/reverse polarity. Where as swapping the board you know it all works.

Exactly! I did test neighbouring components and everything seems to be okay and measuring as it should. However, I think a board swap is the best way to go.

It’s a lot easier just to swap out the whole case. My grandsons packed up. I bought a tatty one that works and swapped the whole unit out. Sometimes there’s a variation in size in size on the audio output power part on the back of unit

Similar problem. No power. Wrong power supply used in desperation. No smoke and no burn marks. Got tips or guides on how to switch out boards? I bought a spare player for cheap, so could swap out parts and board. Wanted to start with back side panel to see if maybe that was the issue since that’s where power port is. Any help appreciated…grateful for a vid like this to help guide me. Thanks

Currently I do not have a follow up video on this record player. The owner said that he wanted to repair it but has failed to get back to me after numerous attempts of reaching out to see what he wants to with it and it is now considered abandoned and is now mine. I will probably find replacement parts one day and that's when I'll make a video of it being fixed up. For now, in your case, swapping the boards out wouldn't be too difficult if they are exactly the same. If they are, you could use a hair dryer to soften up the hot glue around all of the console controls (LED, pots for volume / speed). Ones the glue is removed, you can use a nut driver or needle nose pliers to loosen up the retaining nuts that'll be holding the potentionmeters in place (you will have to take the knob off the post of the potentiometer first to access the nut). Once all of that is done the board should be free, but if it isn't, just go up and down the length of the board to see what's holding it in place and go from there. Everything that is plugged into the board will unplug - just use an even pulling force and it'll slip out. If the plugs have glue slathered on them or some other lock-tite looking liquid, just apply heat from a hair dryer and that should weaken the bond enough for you to pull the plug out. If the boards aren't the same and certain components have to be swapped out and you don't have proper soldering equipment (hot air station) then hit up Google and find an electronics repair guy / shop in your area. 🙂

@TyaxCompIt's probably not the amperage that killed it. My son just accidentally used his 12v adapter for his LED gaming chair and let out the magic smoke a few minutes ago 😕

Unfortunately these things aren't engineered to last more than a few years. In the past I actually had to end up 3D printing parts for similar items in order to keep them alive since no pets were available. Thanks for watching!

Problem with mine is the speakers are real quiet, i cant seem to figure out the line in part, and im not sure the headphone jack is not working correctly
@daveytechca
@daveytechca Жыл бұрын
Could be a number of things wrong with it... cold solder joints, bad amplifier IC, bad caps... Poke around and explore, best thing to look for first is visible damage. After that you can do some DIY replacements if you're comfortable doing that or take it in to a shop. Thanks for watching William!

My wife has had one of these for years but when I went to use it this morning the volume is barely audible. Yes, I clicked the switch to Line but the volume is horrible. I haven’t found a solution yet on the internet. The Victoria site isn’t helpful for this problem.

Sorry to hear about the problem you're having with your unit. There's a couple of things that could be the issues, easiest being a problem with the stylus. If it's worn or broken or otherwise malfunctioning it will not play anything. Another potential problem could be a fault in the amplifier circuit or it could just be a simple loose connection somewhere. Hope you can get it looked at and repaired soon! Good luck!

Today my record player (VSC-550BT) stopped working because I was an idiot and mixed up my CD player's power cable with my vinyl player's power cable. I think it was too much power for it. Now when I try to turn it on with the correct cable, the light won't turn on and the table won't spin. The speakers still make a popping noise like they are receiving power, but nothing else is working. I opened it up and couldn't find any burn marks. Is it shot or is it worth rescuing it?
@daveytechca

Damn eh? The amplifier IC is most likely fried but not to the extent of being scorched looking on the outside. Find an electronics repair shop in your area to assess it.

Exactly the same problem here! Although I didn't plug the wrong adapter...the speakers POP when turned on, except no power light turns on. I hope someone can weigh in and help remedy this for so many folks having this issue. Thanks in advance!

Where is the fuse located? My board looks perfect but no power when plugged in so that’s what I’m thinking needs to be replaced
@daveytechca
@daveytechca Жыл бұрын
I don't recall seeing a dedicated power fuse on this board, however, there could be other components that act as a fuse. If there's anything look close to where the power goes into the board. There's a connection going from the power connector on the back to the board, look in that general area and see if anything looks damaged. Tell tale signs of SMC damage; obvious burn / scorch marks, tiny solder balls under the component, the leads of the component appearing to have been re-soldered (the component heated up so much that it disturbed the original factory soldering, the same behaviour will cause solder balls to form as well). With SMC capacitors (the small tan color components) for them to fail is common, and when they do they'll cause a short that will usually exhibit "no power" issues.

Found one at Salvation Army for $24.99, they let it go for $18 because they lost the power supply. I got excited a little too fast, thought this thing was real vintage, LOL!!! Found a power supply for 10 bucks on Amazon. Unfortunately it did not turn on. Opened it up and saw that a few of these small cylinders (don't know what's called, are dancing around in the case. I'm not going to do soldering. Returning to the store, hopefully will get my $18 back. Boohoo...
