I'm 61 years old and I had surgery Removing my prostate. Thank you for your input of what you went through. I'm going on one month now Recovering , Feel much better. I have to see my doctor soon,and ask questions About my health. But most of all, I guess I have to be patient and wait till I get back into the game again.

Mark, I myself have just had the surgery and am recovering. Part of my preparations was watching your channel and learning how it worked out for you. I want to thank you for providing these videos, and providing guys like me with reassuring and useful information on what to expect and what needs to be done. I am profoundly grateful.

You are very lucky man! I had a prostate cancer robotic surgery in October 2012 and I am still dealing with ER, little incontinence, but after almost eight year I am cancer free.

I love Mark's videos and his FB group, but I just want those who may be newly diagnosed or in the early stages that Mark's amazing recovery is very atypical. The vast majority of people will not be back to normal this soon. Mark states that he never needed urinary protection which is extremely rare. Mark claims to have normal sexual function back at seven months with is also extremely rare. I think what is important is the fact that Mark went with the best doctor he could find.

I had the procedure a month ago. I'm 57. Like you I had complete urinary control. It was a somewhat different feeling than the 'you have to go feeling', but it is nothing serious. Initially I had a difficult time moving my right leg inward, not a problem walking though. Even that seems to be going well and I don't have an issue. So far the worst things for me were the catheter which on the second week was driving me crazy, but that's history. Still waiting to see a fuller recovery sexually, but then it has only been a little over a month for me. This is a journey, no doubt, and very confusing one. All the procedures that get suggested, it can be overwhelming. I had a very aggressive surgeon and I really didn't want to go that way, so radiation, ciber-knife, etc all sounded good to be. I went and talked to a Radio-oncologist and she gave me the best advice of all. Even though she was a radio-oncologist she told me if I were her brother she would recommend the robotic surgery, and I did so after there was signs I had progressed from a Gleason 3 +3 to a 4+3. I am about to get my followup blood tests here shortly so hopefully my PSA levels will also be near 0. Watching another video I heard that many men go through a form of grieving as sex will be different, and I think that's somewhat accurate for me. Maybe not really grieving, but a certain acknowledgement of a change in your life. I look forward to future improvements and thank you Mark for your candor. It's a hard thing to talk openly about as it doesn't get a lot of sympathy from those not experiencing it.

Great video Mark. Im 55 and had my prostate removed 4 days ago. Just a small thing to add to your following. Low PSA does not mean you dont have prostate cancer. My PSA was 1.3 at its highest point. I had Gleason score 7 cancer. Dont rely on PSA alone.

+Tim Tuttle Thanks for your note. I guess the PSA is merely an indicator for most. Most men with a low PSA won't elect to look into further tests, so I am curious what prompted you to take the next steps to determine if you had the cancer. We're there other signs?

Thank you Mark for making these video's. My surgery was May 19th 2017. I had the robotic surgery to and am waiting to get my 1st post surgery PSA. Your video encourages me and validates my same decision to have the surgery. I also have not had incontinence issues. I also am having almost full erections just 8 weeks after surgery. At his point, I am back to the gym 4-5 times a week and am almost totally back to normal. I pray that this good outcome continues. Your video is so helpful. And I am encouraged by them. Thank you for taking the time to make them. Rene

Hi Mark, Mark from the UK here. Great video. I'm a little behind you in my journey as my surgery was the 21st Oct 2015. I had a T3a tumour following histology results so it was just caught in time although starting to break out so a little more tissue had to be removed but still nerve sparing. Just had the results of my latest psa test which was undetectable. now trying to get back to being the guy I was before, I'm 41 so quite young to have it apparently. best wishes to you.

I had robotic prostate surgery more than two years ago and still have some leakage problems that come and go. I don't wear a shield except at night as sometimes I leak a little in my sleep. I'm considering physical therapy to see if it will help with this. The prostate has two nerve bundles from what I understand. Sometimes the cancer will compromise those nerve bundles and the surgeon cannot spare them. In my case one nerve bundle had to be removed which makes it very unlikely I will ever have a full erection without help from injections or a penis pump with construction rings. I know the latter works. So far still cancer free.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your video I found it very informative and encouraging. I was diagnosed last year with stage 4 prostate cancer by Dr Samadi and straight away put on lupron and completely changed my diet. After being referred to Professor Scher at MSK, a year later, I've made some positive progress but now I'm faced with an alternative treatment plan. From your surgical experience I'm going to explore this option with my doctors, hoping to beat this awful disease. Thanks again!

Great, you answered my question I posed on an earlier video. Your giving me hope. I 'll be going to surgery in November. I am also 52 years of age. I am so afraid of losing my erection.... I will be doing it with Vipul Patel in Orlando Florida. He supposedly is very good. Goes around the world teaching the DaVinci technique... anyway. I am so happy to hear about your story and your enthusiasm is evident. Best of luck to you.

Dr Patel is an excellent surgeon. You are in good hands. For most men, full erectile function returns, but it takes a few months. I will lost a video soon that addresses erectile function, and what to expect. Make sure that your surgeon addresses how he plans to spare the nerves that are responsible for sexual function.

Hi mark, can you tell me the best way to find a surgeon that performs the Da vinci procedure. When i google it all i come up with is urologists and not a surgeon that actually perform the da vinci procedure. i'm in Houston, Tx. Hi there samsung 11: Google Houston Methodist.org, when you'are on the web page, on the search glass type "urologysts. There you'll find Dr.Brian J. Miles. He seems to be a great Dr. Two months ago I had a prostatectomy done by my fantastic surgeon Dr. Akshay Bandari from MSMC here in Miami,FL.

it is very overwhelming when trying to find a doctor to do the procedure. There are so many choices out there, all you can really do is go by some of the reviews they have. Did you ever look into Dr. Vipul Patel in Celebration, FL. It looks like that's all he does with many great reviews. Don't know might have to make a drive down to Disney World. lol

I had my surgery first week of March 2022. It is now into August 22. My continence has improved quite a bit. I do still wear some protection since I do leak a little on a cough or a sneeze (I hear women often have this issue). And as Mark says the urine flow is great but the erection part is still lacking. I am maybe 50% to what I feel it should be. This part is discouraging. I use cialis but it does not seem to improve things much. Also, on ejaculation I often ejaculate urine. Do not like this. I may need to use a pump or do the injection route? Also, I am 68 so this may make a difference too? Had a 3 month PSA check at zero and due for another check on 6 Sept. Surgery does save your life, but does change it. I have 2 aquaintances that have prostate cancer right now. One sadly to say will not make it. The other has had his cancer return after 4 years and outcome is unknown.

Mark , I watched your first video and followed you until you mentioned you had full control of urine after surgery and could get an erection following surgery. I’m 62 , physically fit , and had one of the best surgeons in the Houston medical center. You weren’t the person I wanted to listen to after hearing this. I needed to hear from those who were actually going through what most men go through after prostatectomy. You really didn’t have much to offer those of us who actually are going through these problems.

Mark, thanks for sharing and amazing amount of needed information. I'm same age as you and was recently diagnosed. I understand that following surgery there's usually shrinkage in penis length. Is that something that you were able to deal with successfully? If you would be open in sharing, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.
@prostatecancerexperience
@prostatecancerexperience 8 жыл бұрын
Leo, immediate after surgery, it may appear that your penis length has shortened, and even thinned. This is due, in part to the Foley catheter being in place, and the fact that your urethra and penis are part of one system, a system that has then been operated on. As you recover and heal, you will see that your penis will return to its regular size. Depending on your surgery and your own anatomy, there may be a MINIMAL loss of length, somewhere like 1/8-1/4 of an inch. But, I promise you that this is nothing to be concerned about. The amazing part of this surgery, if performed properly, is that you really get your body back almost 100%. Feel free to contact me if you would like to speak on the phone.
