I own the X700 here in the UK. How do you find its performance on 70cm? Mine really pulls in the local stations at a bunch stronger signal but cannot hear long distance compared to my X50

Well. It was great for a while until i had weird swr spikes. I thought it was the coax connector bad soldering, etc… until i took the antenna down and dismantled it to see that the inside coper rod was broken at multiple places… so i understand why they stopped making them, too long and bending too much in the wind. The X500 is shorter… there are also X500 equivalent from China if I remember…

BTW fall arrest systems are designed to be clipped to your dorsal D ring not your Hip?

How do you find the X700, Have you been able to compare with any other dual band verticals at the same height?
@VE2FET

Good gain but fragile because of the wind. When i removed it found out the copper rod inside was broken at 2 places... after changing antenna connectors etc thinking it was something else. They don’t make them anymore for a reason. X500 is a bit shorter might be better durability...

when watching the video there is a cable on the right that goes from top of tower to bottom I'm guessing looks like a ground wire??? What kind of cable is that and where can I find one and what do I look for or ask for when shopping for it? looks like a thick braided cable. I will be in need of a ground wire soon to run up my 72 ft tower. Thanks for sharing. As for the music I would have rather had you talking explaining things rather than it LOL :)

Hi! The cable is a size #4 connected to multiple copper rods and also to the rod of the house electrical ground.

I'm guessing thats a steel cable not copper as it would be very expensive? and thank you for answering so quickly.

@@VE2FET I don't know black absorbs heat and light or heat anyhow so that sounds me like it would be better if it was white and reflected the sheets / sunlight but I don't know for sure.

T400, with section #13 as the bottom section, and #4 at the top. #3 and #2 are very narrow.

So what does a 80 ft Tower without anything else cost? About a hundred grand? Holyshit! I'm not sure risking your life is worth the risk I mean I'm not sure ham radio is worth the risk. Although I'd probably do it too. I guess as long as you have a spotter and a good safety system which it looks like you have I guess it's not too bad. Without Really knowing anything about these things it looks as if that deal hook to the Rope is made so that if you fall it will grab the rope and stop you from falling any further. I would imagine that has to be how it works?

Interesting choice of background music. 80 feet isn't that great of a height. When I was 40 years old, I fell off of a tower at 80 feet, and walked away from it. Music would be more appropriate if it were say a 1000 feet or so. Jim WA5WRE
