Good luck. Take plenty of measurements beforehand! From whatever reference points you'll want to use. (like the belt line of the quarter panel to the floor etc)

@@thedrunkenturbo I did figure out that if you order these panels'AMD ' from Camaro central, they don't tell you that the inner lower valance is actually attached to the lower part of the tail light panel, they assumed you'd be cutting yours off a good tail light panel, so I just need to fit the inner tail panel to trunk pan & weld Err home

Great work on the Camaro. I am in a similar process with much of the same work and parts (72 SS/RS) but I'm much slower than you. Completely rebuilt the subframe with UMI and Wilwood components. Finished the floor pan patching, DSE subframe connectors, and firewall smoothing (VintageAir going in) and thought I only had the trunk pan and tail to replace. Just finished the trunk pan and in so doing discovered the really crappy 1980's work done on the quarters (bad patches brazed in) so I'm using your videos as a guide in replacing both. Like yours, the car will be more AMD black EDP than original paint. Keep the videos coming so I can "leverage" your work!!

Thanks for the kind words! It's definitely a labor of love... Err love of labor? Haha. Yep sounds like you are in the same boat that I was in. Shit repairs throughout to years the, more I tore into things more I found wrong. I could have patch a lot of it just didn't sit right with me. So out most it came. Believe it or not, the car came with a vintage air kit. I'm on the fence about putting it back in since the car is going to be more drag oriented. But having heat would be nice sitting in the lanes at the track. Lol. As you I'll be installing the DSE subframe connectors also. Just been waiting to get some weight in the car and give the front subframe a good alignment with the body before I weld them in (hopefully in the next two months) The front suspension I'm thinking PTFB control arms and their Viking coil over kit. Thanks for watching and share some pics of your car (you might have on some of the Facebook groups I think) I enjoy seeing others projects

I have a question for you where to you get the inner corner trunk bumper brackets where you put those bolts in the tail panel and rear quarter panel thanks.
@thedrunkenturbo
@thedrunkenturbo Жыл бұрын
Hey. Big bolts went through the normal holes that hold the bumper on. Um if I remember correctly, I used 14mm x 30mm bolts through there. Smaller ones were 1/4" holes, that I drilled through all the parts back there Then used some 1/4-20 x 1" cap bolts that I had kicking around. As for the location, where all the panels lined up at. The corner brackets came with the trunk floor drop offs

Should be able to in install the rear crossmember extensions and crossmember in after the fact Just be a more a pita to get the welder in there. Then spray some sort of paint in between the panels. Etc.

Thanks for your response's..... Let me know what ya think about that valance I ordered from Camaro central..... I'll be taking a small break from car, I have to upgrade compressor to a 60 gallon, & get a roll around tool chest & mount a vise, I worked on car last year in driveway, this year it's in the garage, so I'm not too organized... Lol sawhorses & plywood .. ha ha

I got same quarters. I hate how the bottom of the mate of tail and quarter looks like the quarter needs to be fatter. I am building 6 figure car, I want it to look right like you. tons of work.
@thedrunkenturbo
@thedrunkenturbo 2 жыл бұрын
Yep. The stamping sucks where the tail panel nests into the quarter. I'm still on the fence on the driver's side, slicing it and moving it over a smidge. Just to tighten the gap up. Not that it's far off, just umm it will annoy my OCD later if I don't do something about it now

Exactly. I'm just over an year on the shell, working a few hours on it here and there. I'm in no rush to get it done either. So if something isn't right, I'll stop, think about what's wrong. then figure out a plan on how to go about making it better

AMD stuff can go both ways. Header and valance are pretty good but fenders are not close. lots of mods needed to even get them close. I mean your gonna spend many many hours on them if your a pro.
@thedrunkenturbo
@thedrunkenturbo 2 жыл бұрын
Most of the AMD stuff is pretty decent. Floor, inner/outer rockers,trunk floor and tail pan were pretty spot on. Just minor trimming/hammer/dolly work to get everything to fit just right. Luckily for me, the fenders aren't to far gone and just need some patches at the bottom on one. The other was hammered where the emblem holes were. The previous body work that was done, over heated and stretched the metal out. So I'll prolly cut out that mess and tig in some new metal on it (I'm horrible at tig welding )

@@thedrunkenturbo I bought AMD and after welding for hours and getting gap to 3/16 I found the round bend on top from side to hood off a 1/8 which is too much to fix. I ended up driving 12 hours to Albuquerque NM for a real good donor off a 73 on facebook marketplace. It fits like a glove right off.

I'm trying to install the lower rear valance but having trouble getting the corners flush along the line. Do I just cut off the extra piece on the rear valance and force it in and weld it. Your advice please. Thanks. Andrew
@thedrunkenturbo
@thedrunkenturbo Жыл бұрын
Hey That's pretty much what I did. Then used some ratchet straps from inside the trunk, out the tail light hole, latched onto the frame rail. Which held the tail panel in place. Took a few tries to trim that edge down to get it to sit right. Also, I did use the sharp flat edge of a body hammer to make the AMD quarter more towards a 90* angle than what they stamped
