The rustoration of my FS1EDX is nearly done, well I hope it is ! Once on the road I will be able to tell if it is running ok. This video shows me fitting some new parts so that the pedal mechanism will work as it should. The V5c has now arrived back from the DVLA in my name so as soon as I get it insured I will be out for a test ride and my final video. Hope you have liked watching these videos and until the next one "Bye for now!"

Had several FS1 here in sweden when I was 15-16 :) We did not ever had pedals here, only regular footpegs . Never seen that paint scheme either and it looks awesome! And now I know what the blind hole in the swingarm was intended for! The FS1 is such a big memory from my youth, it took me everywhere and it did it fast.

Great job your doing there mate. Had one of these. Exactly the same as this one. The handle bar on the DX was flatter though as on front of Haynes manual. Sold mine in 1982 and was immaculate with about 3500 miles on the clock. No rust dings scratches at all. Wish I kept it now😐.

Fascinating vid.Fixing a humble little fizzy bike.Remember these in the 70s heyday,was too young to ride one.The engine and transmission noise when they were ridden about,you turned your head when you heard one coming.

Best video out there at present on the restoration of these bikes, thank you. Sorry, but I have to say it, those handle bars are definitely not FS1E DX...

Hi Russell, thanks for your comment. Its been a bit of a learning curve as this is the first Fizzy that I have ever owned. But I am loving working on it. Was working (and videoing !) on it yesterday, changing the crankshaft seals so that vid should be out soon. Interesting what you say about the handle bars. They are pattern parts from Yambits, but look quite close to original when comparing them to photos on the web. Cheers Mickey 🙂

Had one of these in 1975, ground the inlet port to make it go a bit quicker, managed 55 on the flat and 68 down a steep hill.

Just to help you there should be a rubber chain guide on the bottem of the crank case just behind the drive sprocket. it stops it making a noise and helps to tension the chain . 👍👍👍👍

0:45 Do they still flash when the brake light is on? That is the real test! (If not they might when the engine is running) You can get 6v flasher relays that do not use a thermal strip to make them work, they work independently of the output load. Many, many years ago when I was at school my mate had a Fizzie, I had a Honda MT5 (the slowest of the restricted 'peds), it was a race every day on the way home, there was a big up hill section, my 5 speed gearbox would get the better of him and his 4 speed box! A couple of years ago I purchased a basket case of an MT5, I've fully rebuilt it to 'as new' condition, I've added a few touches of my own, I've tuned the engine, fully ported, re-cut head, modified ignition, bigger carb, internal mods to the exhaust, 6 speed MTX80 gear cluster, that sort of thing. It does an easy 55 on the flat, its more fun to ride than my Triumph 1050 Speed Triple!

That’s a great story about your MT5 , thanks for sharing 👍 Re the indicators and the brake light, I’m not sure. I haven’t checked that out yet, but I will next time I’m in the garage. Cheers Mickey

Beautiful 🎉 But the fact the British must have pedals like that is absolutely awful 😢😮
@cedriclynch
@cedriclynch 5 ай бұрын
The definition of a moped in the UK before 31 July 1977 was "a motorcycle with a cylinder capacity not exceeding 50cc and with pedals by means of which it can be propelled". Traditionally mopeds were like heavy bicycles with engines, and in many cases you had to pedal to help the engine up steep hills. In December 1971 the UK government changed the driving licence regulations so that at the age of 16 a moped became the only type of motorcycle you could ride. Suddenly there were lots of motorcycles on the market (initially from Italy, Austria and Portugal but Yamaha and Honda were not far behind) that were under 50cc and had token pedals that were just about usable so that they met the legal definition of mopeds. These became very popular. There was at the time no legal restriction on the performance. The "Fizzy" in this video will do about 45mph/70km/h if unmodified; some of the Italian mopeds could go faster but tended to be unreliable if the rider did not have mechanical sympathy. The "Fizzy" was very reliable because the engine can withstand revs higher than it will reach at full throttle in neutral. In the mid 1970s busybodies started noticing the situation, and the government changed the definition of a moped from August 1977 so that it is no longer required to have pedals but the maximum speed is not to exceed 30mph/48km/h. Later European Union regulations reduced this further to 45km/h and have not been repealed since the UK left the EU.
