In this video me along with my friend the cairns railfan chased Mulgrave Mills newly refurbished cane train number 25 also known as Cucania
‘25’ has had an interesting service life started out as Moreton Mill DHI-71 ‘Moreton’ built in 1963. After the Moreton mill closure in Nambour during 2003 it was acquired by Mourilyan Mill and numbered ‘20’ before I assume it was passed off to South Johnstone Mill due to the Mourilyan Mill closure in 2006. South Johnstone seems to have had it for a while and carried it with the same number. Some time during the 2010s Mulgrave Mill got their hands on it; gave it a new number ‘25’ and gave it the name ‘Cucania’ as well. It was rebuilt by Mulgrave during 2022-2023 entering some service in the 2023 season and now finds itself working the isolated trains north of the Barron River during this season when the harvesters cut up there. Now it just has the ‘25’ number and has lost it’s name, I’m not sure if it is only a temporary or permanent decision to no longer have it carry the name of ‘Cucania’.
I hope you enjoy:)
