Video Diary One Narcissistic Parent

First diary entry after my fist 30 days looking after my elderly folks. I hope this little video can help others know you are not alone, and although the struggle is REAL. You are not alone and you matter.

You’re a good person Henry! They’re very lucky to have a son that overlooks & forgives. I’m sorry that you have had to make your way through life without the support of your family. Both of my parents passed, my Mom died at 53 from lung complications due to smoking. She was basically confined to her bed during the last couple of years of her life connected to oxygen. We all helped taking care of her and I was very close with my parents. You’re really a great son to your parents and you’re taking a lot on by yourself while dropping everything and leaving your life in London behind. I’m glad you’re able to somewhat keep your sanity by realizing you can’t take their jabs personal and are able to collect your thoughts and capture a few zen moments. I watched the entire video, it’s an interesting and well told story. You did an excellent job conveying your thoughts and feelings. You & I are about the same age and we’ve both been in the army. I have someone who I’m the closest with who has battled substance abuse for decades and I never gave up on, win their battle. I watched this person that I love dearly go through hundreds of drunken days and nights of rage and causing our family heartache. So many times going through treatment centers, so many times being arrested, etc. but eventually winning their battle and now is truly the most beautiful sweetest person on earth. I say all of this because you spoke of your own troubles. You can overcome and just from looking at you, it looks like you are doing great in that respect, at least I hope so. I’m wishing you the best out there with your parents, you’re really doing a great thing by being there for them.
