I’m an operator at a landfill in the U.S. some companies will charge clients extra if they want to recycle but the driver will take it to the landfill or mix it with trash anyways. Hopefully, this isn’t a common occurrence

@Swift Kidd, I work at a landfill and these fires are very uncommon. When the trash gets put down and compacted, dirt is later placed on the trash, about a foot, and is compacted also. Therefore, no oxygen can get to a fire. No oxygen=No Fire

The primary thing you can do is NOT recycle more. It’s be mindful in the beginning. Don’t accept extra plastics like straws, lids, utensils at fast food restaurants, choose packaging of recycled paper instead of plastic, bring your own bags for grocery shopping, use your own reusable thermos instead of to go cups, eat all the food you buy, etc. sooooo many ways to cut down without even doing any work

When you work for Waste Management even in customer service (which I did) you have to ride with one of the drivers. Did for 12 hours on a frontloader. In TN. The landfill in Murfreesboro it was revolving. Ended up sick with pneumonia. We have a very serious problem. Precious Plastics is a good channel we have other options. When you end up in a landfill you discover how revolting it all is down to the medical waste dumped. Your needles go somewhere. Changes your perspective on all of this. Did mine. They were actually a good company to work for. I wish I had stayed.

Anyone in Florida should recycle like crazy. It's the state most ill equipped to deal with landfills. Water table is high so they pretty much have to pile it up and because there has to be a liner top and bottom, means the stuff will never breakdown. It's basically stored until it becomes economically feasible to recover what's contained, meanwhile takes up a lot of space.

The whole system fatally flawed,.....some people recycle, many are too lazy , no matter how easy you make it for them. In poor neighborhoods, people throw mixed rubbish and recyclables, including toxic materials into their trash barrels. No one is going to sort this stuff out, even after picking it up and taking to a landfill. In some cities people have to pay money to places to take their old batteries, and toxic substances. That means many will not or cannot take on that extra cost to their budget. Recycling isn't perfect yet,.....so many types of plastics aren't being recycled, there is NO market for them. Like all the colored plastic lids,......they go into the ground,...there is no market for them to be recycled into. Glass from consumer foods is being recycled, but not specialty glass used in windows, and picture framing, and automotive glass. Styrofoam isn't being recycled unless you are a business that generates tons of it. The consumer, who buys things at stores, that come packaged in styrofoam, doesn't have enough to recycle it, so it goes in to the landfill. When apartments are being cleaned out,..all the trash is thrown in large rolling dump bins,.....not sorted out. Food, clothing, old furniture, appliances are all thrown into one hopper and taken to a landfill, no one is removing anything of value, it all goes to the landfill. In my town there are many re-use stores,...most people are too lazy to take the still good items to these stores.

Booga04 Minecraft Burning the trash would create massive harmful smoke clouds full of pollutants and methane gas that can cause widespread chronic illness to the public. Horrible idea. Blasting our trash into space is absolutely ridiculous and selfish and expensive. You would need a rocket to travel well out of earths gravitational pull for that amount of trash outside the earth would cause major weather problems like acid rain daily. Horrible ideas.
