Joblessness is not laziness. Those with disabilities like mental problems, including drug addiction, are literally unable to function well enough in society to hold down a job. If you were an employer, would you hire someone with this kind of disfunctional disability? And, if you did, would you keep them on as they experience one after another setback or crises in their mental illness as happens in these people's lives?

Walmart will hire them.send them back to where they came from.put them on a bus. This is what the government did to these people. I look after a 86 year old with dementia. and the she has a three year maiting period to go into a long care home. Disgraceful.

I'm an older American. I can remember just 40 years ago getting jobs right out of high school in factories. In the last 40 years our population has grown by 150 Million people and we no longer produce anything in this country. Increase population and no jobs leads to homelessness, substance abuse, etc. Good "luck" solving that problem.

How do we find housing for illegals but not the native born this makes no sense
@ladyliberty5771
@ladyliberty5771 6 ай бұрын
'Illegals???' I see asylum seekers have been coming in, and I see houses in my area being filled with 2-4 families, but nope... NOT given. Corporations were enabled by Dougie, have brought properties/houses at OVER listed, thus raising values, and greedy landlords are capitalizing on their investments, as is their right! The problem is that houses being built are on a grander scale, costing a hella more than many can afford! Apartments/condos, the same! Dougie did away with stabilizing rent so landlords can pretty much charge, months, what they want, under some limited rules! So how is it that you are making this about a marginalized, and what ignorant Americans allege, are "illegals"? How are they ultimately to blame for a greedy set of people, and for the government's failure to regulate other costs, as well as this one! Stop blaming the innocent, reach out to those leaders that are in charge, VOTE what you have researched to be someone who will WORK in government, and not act like the MAGAGOP are in the states! Come on!!! Be smarter!

I've gotten push-back for mentioning this before, but one of the biggest problems that relates to this issue is rampant real-estate speculation. People wanting to "invest" and the rent they charge is to offset their payments, or people who do nothing but flip houses - buy it, paint it, plant new plants and sell it again. You want affordable housing you need to find a way to reign that in. I know "that's just entrepreneurialism" or people gotta make money. Well it's also indirectly causing harm.

I'm glad that this report pointed out that people weren't given tickets specifically to Tulsa. Yes, maybe they were given a bus ticket and those people chose Tulsa. But like you say, other people showed up in other cities. Very few people would just up and go to a new city simply because someone gave them a ticket... they either are from there, have family there, or know of other friends that had gone there. It's safer and easier to be homeless where you know the streets and the system and not some far off, unknown to you city that you have to learn to navigate.

Instead of all these tiny home villages, why don't municipalities allow more trailer/ mobile home parks. They are basically the same thing, but mobile home parks were always one of the most affordable housing options for people of all ages. And mobile homes can be large enough to house families instead of just singles. People can bring their own trailers and leave when they want. My parents owned a trailer park in the Midwest from the 70s on. It was always a place people could get on their feet and many went on to buy traditional homes.

A federal job guarantee they pays enough for the cost of living would solve this problem. We have a lot of differed maintenance in these towns that could provided jobs. Most people would work if it actually pays a fair wage. Even if it seems like unimportant work everyones time is valuable to them and they should be compensated fairly. Cleaning communities or even teaching these people new skills that fast track them to needed guaranteed work could solve this problem.

With rents tripling and quadrupling, I was forced from the only home I ever knew, to leave. I came because it was affordable. Then I discovered rents here are on the rise and at the same level. So, you can not raise the rents and food and everything else and not expect homelessness to happen. There are not support services. It’s obvious the money provided doesn’t go where it should.

When you have a system that only values a person for their ability to make profit for a corporation this is what we see. A lot of people are tired of just working dead in jobs to get other people rich on the top. Especially in a cold society where people don't even know how to connect with each other anymore. A lot of people have just checked out and a like zombies and I blame capitalism. We should have fair trade instead of always wanting as much profit as possible. Corporate greed has sucked the American spirit dry and it's running in fumes at this point.

Most of those people dont need any more than a hostel room to themselves, just build like 3 hostels the size of the large ones in san fransisco charge $15 per night for your own room and it would cost a shit ton less then doing those tiny homes. no cable or anything, maybe give them wifi though. or have them pay extra for a wifi password for the week. showers could be located in the halls or two per floor or something. there could be a large kitchen for everyones use and just a microwave and fridge in the rooms. maybe a discount for rooms with two people. and there you go. If they want better they can work towards a job. if they are disabled they are kind of stuck. but most of them arent doing anything with their lives to neccessitate more space. if they craft they need their own room, they can pay for it. not sure why people make this so hard

The wifi for free for first week to help them with the ability to get a job. Bus routes map. Important info given on closest clinic and mental health care so they can get meds. About half of them need not a handout per se, but a "leg up" on the local phone numbers of places that can help them. Some are disabled and qualify for a caseworker to help them. Fastest growing population of homelessness is women over 50 who are disabled.

By your comment you have no understanding of the mindset of the homeless, you have not been to the homeless and sat down and talked to them! You have not given them food, or a cold weather jacket in the winter months. You have not spent anytime having any conversations with them, sharing the Gospel! Many just like you do not want to know the truth of the matter. But are quick with your solutions, but do not know the actual problems involved! Americans want quick solutions, but do not want to learn the issues! The bible speaks of being willingly ignorant! This is exactly the foundation of the big problem with mankind and human civilization!

They try to divide us by making the homeless look and feel "different" or sperate from the general society. Homeless people are just normal people. There are so many causes and factors that play into why one would become homeless. And some are the working poor! I've had friends that worked all day but just didn't make enough to afford a place to stay so they live at homeless shelters. And jobs are competitive in today's society. Employment and self sufficiency aren't rights they're privileges.

My sister was homeless in NYC. She refused shelters as she would be robbed. They are not safe! Up here, Toronto bussed homeless to our city, Brantford. Now that Torontonians are living here, they want them sent elsewhere. Of all the houses that are going up, in this crisis of WAY too high costs for purchasing and renting, ALL are "luxury homes starting at $300k!" It's disgusting! We are looking at homelessness as I am low income, and my landlords want to sell! I cannot afford to move! I've applied for jobs I CAN do, given my disabilities, but never hear back! I USED to be an RN so I could work in the medical field! To hear one person about "burning bridges" and some saying it's "a choice"... ARE YOU SERIOUS! Brantford WAS talking about tiny homes. But yes, we need mental health services to be modified and FUNDED! Brantford seems to have scraped the tiny home program! My heart is broken for these people.

Cities DO ABSOLUTELY offer bus or plane tickets to people so they will leave. NOT a myth. Seattle does it, other cities do it, maybe its just hush hush. 🤷
@EricaGamet
@EricaGamet 7 ай бұрын
But not to a specific city... which is what we always hear. A city suddenly has more homeless (as most do these days) + people were given a bus ticket = somehow equals "X city is paying to bus people specifically to X city." They get given tickets if there is somewhere they would rather be (to be closer to their support system or a place known to have jobs they might go after). Sometimes the price of a bus ticket is all that's keeping someone from getting back to where they feel they can change their situation.
@elizabethjarvie6077
@elizabethjarvie6077 7 ай бұрын
@@EricaGamet yes, to a specific city- tickets have specific destinations. And people do send homeless away with 1-way tickets to specific cities so they will be someone else's "problem" too. In Seattle they have had several campaigns to send people elsewhere because EVERYone who is a drifter comes here, wants to be homeless here where everything is free literally, drugs and crime aren't prosecuted, and the acceptance of living & camping ANYwhere is literally allowed, tolerated etc. by stupid negligent government. They make millions & millions by keeping so many people homeless in Seattle for its all about the funding which they keep most of it. Crisis is profitable. So many come here & find themselves on the street because they can't make it & some turn to crime & prostitution. Rent is higher here than most places for sure. The city goes out in the name of helping, offering plane or bus tickets which they pay 100% and to anywhere. If you say Oklahoma, Oklahoma it is. I think they try & encourage people to go to their hometowns so they can connect with family but it doesn't natter where they go just as long as they go. People just come to Seattle in droves hearing everything is free, food shelter clothes, transpo, housing, medical care etc because it is. But there are long long lists to wait. Also open drug & alcohol use in the city, drug markets, crime and no prosecution of misdemeanors or property crime, all the parks are full of needles its terrible. The homeless are very vulnerable to all the street criminals. Predators who are sometimes homeless but often set up tents just to deal drugs & prostitution. The city offers people 1way tickets to get out. 🤷

They've come to our small East Tennessee town in droves! 95% of them DO NOT want to work at all! There are jobs everywhere, but the affordable housing crisis is real. Mentally ill people used to live in state institutions, but we don't have those anymore. I feel for our homeless veterans most. Our government should be building housing for them first instead of illegals. Druggies don't want to work, they'd rather beg for money and steal. Anyone that can stand for hours in 90 degree sun can work. They can't afford food, rent but they can always find the money for their drugs. Rehab is free for them too. Those that have been to free rehab, get out and get back on drugs get no sympathy from me.

In order to get a job, you need an address. I could go on & on... but it seems you have your mind made up. I was homeless for a short while and I didn't know of any druggie. When I got on my feet, I helped several women who were disabled by letting them use my phone, gave them bus tickets to get around town and I helped them get off the street. I also let them use my address for important paperwork. Small things mean a lot when you have to leave domestic violence and there isn't anywhere to go. Now I am too disabled to keep on helping, so my neighbors go and help the ones who don't need money...they need help like I wrote about.
@tracyjohnson5023
@tracyjohnson5023 7 ай бұрын
@@headishome8452 my mind is made up about the druggies as I see them daily putting lots of time and energy into getting money for drugs. Being homeless due to domestic violence is a whole other issue and I'll help them all that I can. We have a great shelter here for them and I take clothes and toys by regularly. As for the truly disabled, we need more affordable housing for them. We have an apartment building here that's just for people 62 and over on disability. We need more. My main issue with disability, is it's being overused these days for people who don't want to work. SSI is supposed to be for people either born with a disability or that became disabled in early 20s before they could work full time for 3 years. Disease, disabling accident. SSDI is for those that worked and paid into social security and became disabled. Sadly, it's much harder to get on disability for the people who have paid into it. The people in both of the situations above, would much rather be working! The good thing is that you can earn up to $1300 monthly and keep disability benefits. My issue is with the people who have never worked or who have worked under the table and not paid taxes. I've seen many people apply for disability in their 30s and beyond for back pain, bipolar, depression, type 2 diabetes etc. To those I say keep doing what you have been because obviously you've survived that way without a visible source of income. While I'm on a roll, imo people with a curable disability like type 2 diabetes caused by being overweight, should be given a year on disability to get better, then cut off payments. So many with incurable diseases pray to get a cure. I do not think the answer to homelessness is to give out free housing, food, healthcare with no strings attached. Btw here in my area, you don't need an address anymore to get many jobs.

The homeless gravitate towards cities because its easier to find protection from the elements and there are more resources. More restrictions are needed on investment home buyers who target cheap/starter homes and convert them into luxury homes or use them as tax shelters or just not allow single family homes to be owned by corporate entities.
