In 2019, 43 million people in the United States lived below the poverty line, twice as many as it was fifty years before. 1.5 million children were homeless, three times more than during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Entire families are tossed from one place to another to work unstable jobs that barely allow them to survive. In the historically poor Appalachian mining region, people rely on food stamps for food. In Los Angeles, the number of homeless people has increased dramatically. In the poorest neighborhoods, associations offer small wooden huts to those who no longer have a roof. It’s not getting better. It seems to be getting worse.

@@Chris-yy7qc SO RIGHT! I grew up in a mill town (school years were 1959-1972), and what you described was exactly the situation. None of the moms in the neighborhood had jobs, though a few might have done a LITTLE of something like baking pies or cakes to sell or maybe something like making alterations to clothes, just to make a bit extra, but generally speaking, there was ONE household income most of the time only 40 hours per week. AND this was in non union jobs where we lived, which also provided on the job training. Our high school even had job skills classes that trained students for the work they would be applying for a graduation. A lifetime with the same company, fair pension, no worries. The biggest company in town was locally owned, and though the owners were millionaires, they were not BILLIONAIRES, which is probably a big part of the difference. Also they had they attitude of "Let's see if we can hire a few more people this year" rather than "Let's see how many jobs we can cut"

We actually have free healthcare, called Medicaid, for the poor disabled. It doesn’t include dental, though. Dental is overlooked here. Even gainfully employed people who have medical and dental insurance (dental is a separate insurance) pay a lot for dental because the insurance doesn’t cover much. I don’t understand it because bad dental health can lead to other medical issues. My son is disabled and I have paid for a lot of his dental care because I can, thankfully. All of that said, this video seems skewed. There are a lot of things here that I don’t agree with. There are a lot of services available here for poor and working poor people. We mostly have a problem with not everyone being able to access affordable healthcare. Even the “affordable healthcare act” that was passed with Obama, medical insurance is expensive. It’s a law now that everyone must have insurance but it’s very expensive unless your poor and has high deductibles so a lot of people who have this insurance can’t afford to use it. The Affordable Healthcare Act” did make it so that insurance companies can’t deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, but then the insurance is to expensive with the high deductibles that cause people to still not seek treatment because they have to pay out of pocket to meet that deductible before the insurance will cover. The government needs to do a better job to make medical care affordable and accessible to all. You either have to be poor or have a job with good insurance. Anyone in between suffers.

Dentists in those part of the world earn insane amounts and protect their business. Makes me sick to the stomach, as dental health is most important for anyone's wellbeing. So many people don't realise how quickly things can turn upside down for you. The place where I had been working at for years was bought and most of the staff who were 21+ were fired, I was left unemployed with no way to pay rent. Finding a job was extremely difficult and I could not keep up with rent, landlord was not understanding and so I had to break my lease and leave. Thankfully I had family I could rely on a few hours away who I stayed with until I got back on my feet, but not everybody has that support system, and if I hadn't I would be homeless. Nobody deserves this. Nobody chooses this.

I remember being homeless shortly after turning 18 and getting kicked out. I will never forget how I felt hearing "There are no shelters for just men. God bless you and good luck." from over 10 different shelters and churches. I will never forget how quickly it gets cold when the sun sets during winter. I will never forget how temptingly warm the first dumpster was. I will never forget how I felt the first time I had to truly beg for my survival. I will never forget the first time I met the first dog I've ever had in my life, two strays surviving together on this cold, barren rock. Life is about survival period. With over 8 billions people and only so much inhabitable land. We do not have very long to live due to desertification, deforestation, global warming, savage storms, massive pollution, drought, dwindling crop yields, shrinking water tables. diseased crops, sun baked crops. low supplies of fertilizers, shrinking diesel supplies and economic warfare and millions of acres of farmland has been sold to China and they will send those food crops to their own people and leave us high and dry. Your traitorous government could care less if we starve. They serve money not the dumbed down sheep they rule over and can enslave and tax in so many ways. The most shocking thing for me as a German is the medical support situation in America. I am not a big fan of Germany, but at least you can go to a doctor, whenever you need to without any costs. Medication is nearly free of costs. When you are ill, your employer fully pays you for 6 weeks. After that the health insurance pays 68 % of your last payment for about 2 years. If you depend on social security, they also pay for health insurance.

@@trashawnbritt4681 You're welcome. I'm not against having children, me and my husband both grew up with stay-at-home Moms and there are benefits to one parent staying home holding down the fort - one person is running errands while the other is solely focused on the income. Then being a stay-at-home parent doesn't mean you're at home 18 years, you can go out and get a job when the kids become independent. It's hard having two parents working with an infant, both are losing sleep for the care of their child and stressing over work and Bills. It's easier with one parent focusing on the other. My job for over 10 years didn't have paid leave nor paid sick time. So I definitely couldn't have a baby. I could, but work wouldn't be paying me. We didn't even get paid vacations. It took a new job taking over that offered such benefits, but at that time we were racking up in hospital Bills. This doesn't mean being rich, but having enough money to pay for your child, Bills, mortgage and not worrying if you have enough money left in the bank for food. We couldn't even afford that.

I am a supporter of the NHS and a member of the Conservative Party in the UK. Even those on the right hate the idea of privatisation health care. It would be like the privatisation of the entire education system. You need your health more than education. I do kind of get why it might not work in the US. I think it is more to do with expectation and culture. We don't have a suing culture here and we don't have any expectations. If things go wrong and are so slow, we understand and appreciate what we have. A lot of people do have health insurance but just like schools, it is up to you which you can afford and prefer. My boss found out that I was doing all of this and he let me stay in a hotel room (I work at the Hilton Garden Inn at a fancy restaurant inside of it) luckily I have great bosses and co workers. I was hiding this from them but this summer heat was brutal. Tonight is my 3rd day in the Hotel room. I'm from Southern California and moved out on my own to Utah and have been here for 5 years. So it's a blessing to be in this hotel room as I type this. I still feel mentally numb, being homeless does affect your mental state. I lost a lot of stuff that I accumulated all of those years in my apartment even my fiancée who I was going to marry, my cats and furniture. But I was helped by my band mates and boss. My best advice is to be honest with people and let them know, my ego and pride had me hiding this from my job and family. Till the front desk manager found out. Tonight I have a bed to sleep on.

It took me over 4 months but I was able to climb out slowly. Key things... I maintained a very positive outlook. I still worked out at the park. Went swimming. listened to music. read books. and went out for walks. Number 1 problem in every country is not having a job. If you have a job, you can have food on the table and pay bills to the apartment. But always aim to build a house. You should not rent for the resr of your life because renting fee is increasing every year

I am homeless with my 2 children. My 1 son is autistic. We stay in our van mostly but try to stay in motels when we can. Because of the kids I can't stay in the van every day. I wasn't always like this. I lived over 30 years without experiencing homelessness. Because of so many on welfare I have applied several times and even had some social workers help me but there's ALWAYS a mess up on the end of the welfare dept because they just have too many people on welfare and not enough workers to answer phones so u can easily fix something they've messed up. Instead u have to wait over 6 weeks to even find out they've messed up and then start over. And it takes all day so when u have to live day by day u don't have time to keep doing that. Then when we have emergencies I CANNOT let my kids freeze, or go hungry, or without ANYTHING they need I will sometimes have to hold a sign to ask for help. Horrible people see I have a vehicle and I'm clean and my kids are clean and say your not homeless ! Your too clean ! U got a van ! Like they don't realize that the majority of people they see asking for help are drug addicts that don't spend the $ on food or cleaning products. And I had help getting this vehicle because mine was in such bad shape it kept breaking down and because I had no credit it cost me almost $600 a month ! This newer one costed me $300 a month with my trade in van which someone helped me to pay off the last couple grand and put the vehicle in their name so the payments would be low enough. But people don't get out and ask questions. They just assume and judge and look down on others. That's not people of God ! Because People of faith don't treat others like that. But I have faith that the Lord is keeping us safe and He will help us and guide us to where we need to be. God Bless all of u going thru a hard time. The Lord is with u even when it doesn't feel like it.

Back twenty years ago, I worked for a national pizza chain and a local supermarket. The pizza joint had an ironclad policy about disposal of unsold or undeliverable food - the garbage. We were not technically even allowed to eat it ourselves. When corporate management found out that the night manager and I were taking this food to a local homeless shelters, we were both fired. At the supermarket I worked at, all produce that was "damaged", such as oranges that were bruised and vegetables that were a days old and not aesthetically pleasing were to be disposed of. The amount of food wasted here is staggering.

We mentioned that People should be able to come get it because of Starvation/Homelessness. They told us "No, we HAVE to throw it away. We have Foods that aren't even Expired yet but we HAVE to" . Told us that they were waiting on the Dump Truck to come get it. I was shocked. Sickening.

@@briasworld8 from a humanitarian point of view, food wastage is really such a crisis. But our current reality is we are govern by businesses and corporations. Food wastage is a huge liability so you will see virtually all corporations that sell food being very strict about wastage and it’s proper disposal. You cannot be evicted in a few days in the US. Each state is different. The quickest in any state is 2 months/60 days. This is a biased documentary. Also: Landlords have bills to. Lived in my car for 2 years while going to college and working 2 jobs. I had been kicked out of my home because I broke my ankle and wasn’t able to work, couldn’t pay the rent. I felt okay though, living in my car. Was thankful for the roof and the transportation. I had a gym membership at Planet Fitness, I worked out but mostly needed it for the 24/7 shower and other amenities. Thankful for that too. Ended up getting a restaurant job where I saved money on food because they kept me fed. Made enough money to finally get my own place but I ended up dropping out of college to work at the restaurant full time because it was good money and helped me find a home. I regret not finishing college, but, I’m thankful for the journey. I wouldn’t be where I am if it had been different. I’m in a happy place finally and I feel like I earned it.

I was homeless at 16yrs old for 18mnths, it’s really not fun. I walked around at night till I had no energy to carry on, to scared to sleep. Had baths at a friends every so often but didn’t have no way to wash my clothes so just had to wear them again, got heavily into drugs/drink and was SA more than once! Having a car to sleep in isn’t great but better than the streets. I’m in the UK so luckily get free healthcare

I gave my home of 20 years to my daughter, 2 grandsons and x wife and moved in to my 98 van 2 years ago. I thought I would be able to get a home cheaper and faster than my daughter. I'm a veteran, 69 years old and living in a world where I never thought finding a place to live would be so hard. The people that own these apartments, homes are really in a world of their own. Pure greed is all I see and it's getting worse. The last two places I tried to get the house needed major repairs and both owners expected me to do ALL THE REPAIRS and and go get the material! The sad part is how many are out there who are even more in need than me. God bless all of you and I hope you the best

If she has kids she should qualify for section 8 or HUD if she has built credit and nothing against her on it. I tried applying for HUD several times myself, but I was denied over a judgement on medical bills. My check was garnished just because I stopped paying a medical bill the debt collector was throwing unfair collateral on. Somehow they made me feel like I was in the wrong and I was scared to speak up to the judge. I'm terrified to take on any debt now. Knowing they get away with this. But yeah, she can apply for assistance, and so can you if that's what's best for your family.

Being homeless off and on for a long time, I empathize. Not every person is a bum or a drug user or have mental health issues. I lived in a dysfunctional home for the first part of my life and when my folks both died the family pretty much scattered apart so I became without any kind of support. I could work here and there but only enough to get by and wound up on the streets for a long time. With the right help, I got into an apartment and get disability now thank God. To those out there who are having it hard, things will turn out. Hang in there and have faith.

What do you think if people outside the US boycotted the USD $ ? Would that make a difference ? I believe this will force the US administration to mind its own business so it won't keep the war against civilians in Gaza ongoing. It may be claimed that the foreigners are financing the war without being aware when they deal and account with the USD. Assume BILLIONS OF PEOPLE did that. From another hand, when the US takes care of its own people, i.e. more relief to US citizens ! No more homelessness and better security to all, instead of igniting wars here and there, or sending bombs to be dropped over the civilians of Gaza. The thing that US citizens couldn't stop with all their protests to cease fire on Gaza. In that sense, foreign countries who boycott USD will be allies to the US citizens. Its economy will be normal, not in debt. It won't be a reckless state. A bit of modesty brings relief to the whole world. What do you think ?
