It probably refers to in scale. New vegas is set in the state borders of California and Las Vegas, where as fallout 3 is set in Washington DC and the immediate surrounding areas.

I think maps that are premade only should be on this list. Not procedural generated. Or online only running on a mega server somewhere. But only games that can be run locally offline that arent procedural. Also, traversal of said map differs from game to game. Someone walked Daggerfall, and it took them 69.5 hours to do.

Elden's map, while full of beautiful art and level design and impressive verticality, is sorely overrated and exaggerated in conversation when it comes to actual scale. Excluding the other subrealm maps you can warp to, the main area of the Lands Between is comparatively smaller than most other games when it comes to the total explorable area of actual land mass. People tend to swoon over it because it's the biggest Soulsborne map ever created, but exploration and traversal is also horribly limited compared to games like Forbidden West, Forspoken and the last four Assassin's Creeds. In those games, if you can see it in the distance, you can parkour or fly to it. You can even dive to the depths of the world. In Elden, it's frequently just a visual tease and even Torrent, who is far more capable of platforming than the player character, is severely limited in both dexterity and mobility. In terms of exploration, Elden's is extremely wasteful of an otherwise gorgeous world map. It really just exists as a huge combat arena.

@@vicentesalasii1480 Interesting take. I can agree somewhat. In my opinion the moment you lift the doors to Limgrave anything you see you are able to go to it. Open world combat area I think is a great comparison with beautiful art pieces. I mentioned Elden Ring’s map because it is in fact larger than many that were in this video. Also, I have yet to see an Elden Ring map comparison so that is why I mentioned it.

Heyyo, not gonna complain like everyone else about specific games not bein in, ik you can't do everything. However you have missed the true smallest game map (or atleast what i know): Grounded. A survival game where the player is shrunk to an ant, gameplay wise its a lot bigger but lore and general physics wise its about 10 meters both width and length

Though I'm not entirely sure, I think that LOTRO must be the largest, non procedurally generated videogame of all time. All the others that come to mind are either entirely procedurally generated (Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, No Man's Sky) or procedurally generated and then edited (EVE). LOTRO has did the impossible. It has incorporated the vast majority of Middle-Earth and it's still going

The measures in this video are completely messed up. In the beginning of the video it's shown that one square has 1x1 km. So, the width of GTA 3 map is 9 km, as shown later. But man, no way there's 9 km from right to the left edge! There's written that this map is 9 square km, and actually the width of the map would be 3 km, which is much more realistic, but not freakin 9 km!!
