I think the reason that video game music is so good is because of two major factors. Leitmotifs and how the music is written, the second is easier to explain, really popular song artist’s songs are made to sell, that is the only goal, so the songs end up being very basic but lacks originality because they know that songs similar to ones that are popular will sell well. And songs written by smaller bands will be more unique, but won’t be as high quality. Video game soundtracks are the best of both worlds and are catchy, high quality, unique songs. The other reason video game soundtracks are so good is because of leitmotifs. To explain what a leitmotif is, we will have to dive into some music theory, a leitmotif is simply a short musical phrase to describe something, think Indiana Joans’s theme or the Mario theme. When you hear them, you think of what that thing and get into that mood. Leitmotifs are rarely ever seen in pop songs, which can make theme seem less meaningful. Another example of music being altered due to a certain condition is A Hat in Time, where music would sometimes change instruments (but not the tune) depending on where in the world you were. In addition, hopping on the scooter in AHiT adds extra drums to the song currently playing. Also, another example of a game reusing a tune from one song in another song is Undertale. Ohoh, yeah, when people ask me that, I usually answer instrumental and dynamic music (even if I enjoy other types) And when they talk to me about music genres, I absolutely CAN'T understand what they're saying I don't know the difference between dubstep and EDM, what lofi is, the difference between Death Metal and "Normal" Metal, things like that... I'm getting better at it lately, but it's usually how it goes!

the journey of finding music as kid is just abstaculous (is that even a word?) i remember start liking music when i was 7 listening to music from movie credit, then i get into gaming, and shit does PVZ, CSCZ, and NFS:UG musics all of those are fucking great. not to say thats not even the first time i heard video game music, the first time actually gunstar heroes, air diver, street fighter, sonic the hedgehog series, streets of rage, ROCK N ROLL RACING, mortal kombat, super hang on, road rash, etc. and i really like those music, such a banger. it leads me to this day to song like DOOM, HALO, QUAKE, WOLFENSTEIN, ADVANCE WARS, COMMAND AND CONQUER, and many many more, i cant list them all.

Now that i think about it, video game music is always the most emotional, the most dynamic, and the most iconic... Most of my favorite OST are from videogames like Kingdom Hearts (or anything composed by Yoko Shimomura tbh), Drakengard and NieR, Everyday Shooter, Ico, Disgaea, Jet Set Radio, the SMT/Persona series, or even fucking ClaDun X2, the Katamari series, and much more... Honestly, In the Final from Bowser's Inside Story was a song that was part of my whole life now with the remake of the game cause I never beat it as a kid. I got stuck on the final battle. So I got a second chance to beat the one game I never finished. And you bet the build up to that was in the back of my mind the whole time. Never before had a piece of music made such an impact on my actual way about going about the game. I just remember going as hard as I could and when I did beat it. I felt GOOD! So now whenever I hear it. I remember the journey that song meant for me. That my friends is the power of game music.
