The last part about "giving freedom to the players even a little bit could enjoy the ride" is the eye opening and got me to reconsider about adding player customizations to the game.

This reminds me about the side quests of the witcher 3 as well and why I liked them. Do you free that creature and doom a village or not? Do you kill that succubus and get the trophy or not? Do you help the baron find his wife? There is an ending to both, and you get nothing back really. Does it metter? Does the game world change? Do you get more content if you help him, and you miss content if you don't? No, of course not, he leaves the castle anyway at the end. Nothing special or great systems behind really, but framed in such a way that it mettered to me; I could never killed the two succubus, only way to get that decoction.

Great analogy! I think of DMC where the playable characters have different movesets and mechanics that reflect their personality. How do you feel about the idea of adding inconvenience, or removing quality of life features, to tie into the story?

Well, if we keep going with the analogy, a rickety mine cart ride can be great because it feels wobbly! And it doesn't have to push as hard as a sleek new megacoaster.

Hah, it's fine. People don't like thinking of games as on rails.
