I love this video. I can totally understand your addiction to video games. I still play them every so often but I've never really been addicted because I don't have friends or anybody else to play with. And video games are fun when you play with friends. And I get bored very easily too. Minecraft was a different story though. I would spend hours on Minecraft during the lockdown, but not so much now. I honestly want to get back into video gaming ngl 😅 despite how wasteful it sounds.

Its funny because, my addiction stemmed from the fact that I was simply just competing against other people. Maybe it was the lack of friends for me that made me so dependent on games. I’m not sure what happened because now I just feel awful every time I boot up my computer. I guess I’ve been conditioned to look at video games as a waste of time. I want to change that but I’m not so sure how. I still enjoy playing them from time to time, and it pains me to let go of something I’ve done my entire life.

This was such a great video! I appreciate you sharing your perspective and experience with gaming. On one hand I'm sorry that you've now realized this and see gaming for the complicated experience it can be, versus how easy it was as a kid to just "exist" on the experience. I truly believe in my heart that once you realize this, you can take this experience to the next level. Gaming doesn't have to be something you only do to escape, it can be something you engage with deeply because you truly care about it, not because you feel like you need to do it. I admit, there are times where gaming feels like junk food to me, but sometimes it is what I need in that moment. Other times, I get to engage with video games at such a higher level than I could as a kid, and it is something that I really cherish as an adult. I hope you follow whatever feels right for you! For me, I don't think I could ever give up playing video games, or would ever want to completely. It is such an important part of me, and I wouldn't want it to go away. As an adult it has become something even more special to me!

Thank you so much! I think you said it well, as an adult it just becomes a complicated experience. Logically, I know that there’s nothing inherently wrong with them, that it can be consumed just like any type of media and that it’s something I can engage with meaningfully. But something inside of me feels on edge whenever I boot up a computer. I become more hyperaware of time slipping away from me. I wanted to make this video in part to try to blend the part of me that feels like she’s wasting her time and my childhood self that truly enjoyed playing these games. Can they coexist without me feeling negatively about them? I’m sure for others they can, but I’m still on that journey.

@@AnLittleAlex I appreciate that you are willing to be honest about your conflict, and I think you absolutely should feel those emotions when you start up a game. Even if your relationship with gaming looks much different for awhile, I think it’s really worth your time to explore them and question your relationship in general. I don’t know exactly where you’ll end up, but I know you’ll be better for it as you try :)

I think there's a shift because you're changing, you want to do more things in reality, like get your master's, etc. So maybe that's why now it starts to feel like a waste of time. I also don't believe that they ruined your life, I think they gave you some good times. :) That one game for me is Age of Empires. Oh my, pure gold for my heart! 😁 And what a nostalgia!
