This mountain has the tallest flank among all mountains worldwide: Its north face drops uninterrupted without any subsidiary peaks and side valleys directly into the Hunza River, from the summit 5920 m elevation difference at only 11 km horizontal stretching. Haramosh (7397 m, not too far in the same mountain range Karakoram) west flank has a similar tallness (exact 6000 m vertical drop at 16 km horizontal stretching), Nanga Parbat (8125 m, 100 km to its south, Rakhiot side on its NW side 7040 m to 25 km), Annapurna I (8091 m) in Central Nepal Himalaya towers 6700 m from the Kali Gandaki within 16 km. These mountain walls are taller, but none of them in such short horizontal distance i.e. aren't such inclined as Rakaposhi north face!

Nanche Barwa does NOT have the sort of rise that Rakaposhi has, in such a small distance so Rakaposhi is the biggest mountain in the world from base to peak
@AOmega726 жыл бұрын
For viewing prominence means nothing standing at the base of this mountain will make even everest seem tiny
@tomsun89054 жыл бұрын
Rising nearly 6000 meters from the valley,it is probably the highest mountains in terms of prominence.

*Notable features of Rakaposhi:* Rakaposhi is notable for its exceptional rise over local terrain. On the north, it rises 5,900 metres (19,357 ft) in only an 11.2 km (7 mi) horizontal distance from the Hunza River. There are views of Rakaposhi from the Karakoram Highway on the route through Nagar. A tourist spot in the town of Gilgit (located in the Bagrote Valley) called _"Zero Point of Rakaposhi"_ is the closest view point of the mountain. _Rakaposhi is the only mountain in the world which rises straight from beautifully cultivated fields to the height of 25,550 feet. From many places this wonderful spectacle can be viewed right from the base to the top._ > Citations from en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakaposhi But... The geographical term *_"topographic prominence"_* is something quite different! In terms of this term, the world's highest point, Mount Everest (8,848 m prominence, the same as its elevation from sea level) tops the list of _"the world's most prominent peaks"._ Accordingly, the Namcha Barwa (7,782 m above sea level) with 4,106 m prominence lies in 19th place. The often mentioned Rakaposhi falls out of the list of the 100 most prominent peaks! *With a prominence height of only 2,818 meters, it ranks 122nd in the world list!* The col elevation to its "parent summit" ie. reference summit K2 is 4,970 m. > Source: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountain_peaks_by_prominence

the distance from base camp to the summit 4.5+km only 2 mountains the Nanga Parbat and the Rakaposhi having very very long ridges ..well we r talking about the world over 7000 meter more than 10km long ridges..no any other mountain..!!
@infernus66627 жыл бұрын
Dude the distance between summit and the base is more than 6000m , that's more than mount denali (5500 m ) making rakaposhi the tallest mountain on the planet
@faisalshahid-nj3ze7 жыл бұрын
yep! u r right!! if u r talking about the distance between the base camps and the summits.. nanga and Raka are massive specially the NW Spur of Raka and the Mezeno ridges of Nanga left the huge impact on ur mind once u just see them I think they r unable to climb till today specially NW Spur of Raka! Other peaks well even Denali or Mt. Everest too.. the distance between Base camps and the summits are not too much..
