Those gp9 models are spectacular, Athearn has really improved their locomotive detail features, lighting effects and sound decoder quality over the past 2, 3 years.

Athearn Genesis GP7/9 units are excellent both in terms of execution and quality control. We mostly sell these with factory installed SoundTraxx Tsunami2 [also awesome] but wanted to show these off with the ESU Loksound V5 decoder.

I fell in love with trains because of 3 of these units sitting in the yard Idling all day. conrail blue became my dream road name and the yard they sat in will be the main focus of my layout. very nice models for sure. all the sounds I love

I believe the leading loco is a gp7 phase 2, the holes in the skirts of the loco near the fuel tank

Check out "Boomer Dioramas" on KZbin here, he's got some good tutorials on installing decoders on 4 or 5 of his engines and an excellent bunch of videos on shelf layout building, just a good all around modeler. Check him out

If only Athearn Genesis locomotives came with Loksound decoders from the factory...

Very realistic "creep" movement of engine when starting to move! This is where most HO engines in this hobby disappoint, looking like toys and not at all realistic to the prototype they are modeling... Can these engines be purchased like this- w/ this kind of realistic slow movement having the exact sound, flashing lights, and prototypical engine performance?
