I'm currently reading Switch as my summer reading for a Leadership Academy I started in which we are working to increase teacher retention rates in our most high need schools. This book is so inspiring and is providing the framework for us to move forward. Thanks for this excellent review!

I read their excellent book. Not only is this a stellar summary of the book; but I wish you would make a poster of this cartoon summary. It would be awesome to pin on the wall.

I agree. I made a screen shot of the end. It's not perfect but it works.

Love this book and the video. Anyway you could redo the audio with a pop filter? every "B" "P" has a huge pop on the microphone. Thank you for doing this video, helpful summary.

I just finished this book, and it was very helpful to watch this review right afterward. Thank you for this amazing review. KZbin needs more of this than some cat videos (though I like them, too.).

Jaewon Park Yes, cat videos are hard to beat. Thanks for sharing that you watched this right after reading Switch and that it was helpful. We think thats great because if you watched the video AND read the book, you are making more contact with this information, which hopefully leads to more practice and taking action on the concepts for you in your own life. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Aren't the scripting moves and and not seeing the big picture contradictory to macro-managing? I thought that I, as a leader, should give my subordinates the vision and let them script their way to the solution after I present them the vision (presenting the "why" rather than the "how").
@RedBunnyFromMars
@RedBunnyFromMars 8 жыл бұрын
Using your vision to guide your colleagues is definitely the idea behind macro-managing. However in this book, the leaders aren't going into uncharted territory, or proposing a brand new idea, but rather changing a previous vision, or a vision set by YOUR boss, or a vision instilled in society that is beyond anyone's control. In the Rubicon model of motivational psychology, motivation is cyclical. You have a vision, then the execution, but the third step, and arguably the most important step, is to reflect on your actions and outcomes and then ADJUST the initial vision. This adjustment process is the one addressed in the book and in order to do that, people need to alter their preexisting habits and make different choices every time they're confronted with it. ie. instead of "eating healthier" as a vision, script that you buy skim milk every time you're at the grocery store, that way you don't "exhaust the rider" by making people control their every single decision at every single meal.

Not only read the book, but studied it. I am leading the use of 4DX (4 Disciplines of Execution) in a division of our company and the principles described in Switch mesh perfectly with that operating system. This overview is really magnificent. How can I obtain a visual of the final depiction?

While this was a good depiction , I still can not say that I now dont need to read the book. Maybe coming back to this video after reading the book will be better. you should check out Fight mediocrity ,if you haven't already.

+12345a Thank you for your comment. Yes, I would agree-this is not a replacement for the book. We create these to get good ideas to people, save them time, and hopefully get them a little more interested in the book and inspiring them on their own journey! So, I think you are right in assuming this would be a something good to come to after getting a bit more intimate with the ideas in Switch(or to inspire someone to check it out). Thank you for watching and leaving your comment!
