@@samspade2131I guess that anybody is alowed to get involved when the fire is so small, and can be put out quickly, with a couple of extinguishers. As soon as the flames spent there were three "brave" workers who rushed to secure the site... Pathetic. Even the people wrking in offices receive some basic training on how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire...

I think a lot of people already have backpacks in hands or ready to put on. I do not see anyone with a suite case. People have to decide what’s the best that helps the situation, follow the rules strictly or just find a way to get off the plane quickly. Will putting away the bags help speeding up? I certainly hope no one slows down to grab bags, we will see what the report say later. As for the ground crew, I Also wonder why no one got a fire extinguisher. But I can see some of the ground crews tried to move things out of the way for the slides. They are responsible to clear the path for evacuation. It took about 1’30” to open the first slide from the time the fire started. It took about 2’ for people to get off. I think that is reasonable, but I heard someone mentioned regulation is 90”. It feels a lot longer watching the video.

90 SECONDS!! That’s how long it took to evacuate that crashed A350 in Japan, and that was a much larger jet . Everybody survived, but nobody took their belongings with them, which contributed to the timely evacuation. If they were Americans like the majority of these people, they’d probably be dead, and I say that as an American man. Our population in particular seems to have developed a culture of ignoring the safety messages on our flights. Yeah, these strike me as the same kind of people that ignore fire alarms in our apartment buildings and public buildings, even though the schools here train us to evacuate by conducting fire drills with the same freaking alarms!! Most upsetting thing is, I live in Seattle. I wonder how many people I know, including my own parents, would take their belongings with them.

(I watched a guy in Seattle use his cell phone while executing a turn, the literal worst time to be paying attention.) There also is the issue that in the US we design vehicles for occupant safety, we don't think anything about the safety of others outside the vehicle, so we get vehicles that'll hit average height male pedestrians in the torso, which is a much less survivable collision than being hit in the legs like most sedans.

It looked like they were doing a typical deplaning where people get their stuff then wait awkwardly until it’s their turn. So the people with bags probably already had those on before the emergency exits were deployed and time became critical. At that point they can either get moving and get off or take extra time to ditch their backpacks. Due to the circumstances, taking their bag with them might have been the quicker option.

I was in a good volunteer fire department for 12 years. It took 3.5 to 4 minutes to get firefighters to the station. At 5 minutes, trucks are rolling. At the 8 minute mark, we are arriving at the fire. But because we pulled booster reels, it took 30 seconds to put water on the fire, unlike present FD's that stretch miles and miles and miles of hose and then huddle to create a plan to attack the fire.

Being an airline ground operations employee myself, I know that that spot on the aircraft is the port for the ground power cable that provides electrical power to the aircraft when the APU is not running. This is most likely the result of someone plugging in the cable while the ground power is on. It could also be that the cable is faulty too though. As this is a newer aircraft (an Airbus A321NEO), it’s not likely an issue with the aircraft itself.
