Life expectancy of any airplane that is flying 2 to 3 flights every day short trips like 6 to 8 hours it’s normally 15 up to 25 years this airplanes are getting older then that and they don’t retire them to used as a shipping carrier airplane like UPS unfortunately boeing and airbus is way behind orders up to 4 to 5 years in order to replace old fleet from many countries orders let alone US airplanes so given the fact the price of each commercial airplane is going up there is no way they can keep up with replacing parts and keep this airplanes running in the best condition all the time most small countries wait up to 8 to 10 years after ordering new airplanes it takes time to receive airplanes nowadays the demand is very high the Arabic countries get the latest and newest airplanes from Germany that’s because they spend for luxury commercial airplanes they don’t care about cost

The only reason it's still in service is the 737 Max problems and delivery delays caused by all of that. Add on the 787 problems and the 777X problems too and you've got a ton of aircraft that should be retired that simply can't be because they won't have a replacement available.

Unfortunately Delta still seems to have a LOT of old planes still in service. Seriously, I watched a jet enthusiast takeoff video at their main hub in ATL with notes on the planes' service entry dates and destinations. About half of them were more than 10 years old.

Not a Boeing issue. In the US, there is a lack of skilled manpower in aviation right now + record flyer count causing lots of technical faults especially in the west coast. Most american airliners use Boeing thus Boeing is more exposed to this.

767s in service are over 20 years old. Some have been flying since the late 90s. No car can even last that long. Boeing 787s and Boeing 737 MAX 9 (the longest 737 Max in production) are to replace those 767. Due to recent quality issues, Boeing is far behind in delivering their orders forcing Airliners to delay the retirement of their old aircraft.

planes last a long time when they are properly maintained, the legacy airlines have some of the best line and hangar maintenance crew in the world and all checks are done with care. Every ten years or so they even do a class D check where they take apart the entire plane and inspect every individual element

Then you're an idiot. I predicted stuff like this over a year ago. Why? Am I psychic? No, I just was paying attention to what was going on in the aviation industry, and what's going on is that both manufacturers like Boeing and the airlines themselves are operating with fewer crew, and investing less in improvements and more in stock buy backs. Then there was also COVID. During that time the airlines, to minimize profit loss, shortsighedly started forcing retirement on employees. And, we have to remember, it also killed a million people and some of them were in aviation. The result? At multiple levels the industry is hurting for skilled workers, the workers that are there are having to work hectic schedules with less downtime, and the companies, instead of investing in recruitment and training of new workers to alleviate the shortages, is spending as much profit as possible on artificially raising their stock prices! The reason stuff like this is happening isn't some boneheaded conspiracy theory, it's the same reason that so many flights get delayed these past few years. When the entire industry is running with staffing shortages, mistakes are bound to be made!

This is most certainly a maintenance issue which is why delta said they would cooperate with the investigation. This is also why it took 30 something years for it to happen. Something that probably needed replacing after some time and maintenance did not catch it. If it was a Boeing issue im sure it would be a much more common issue and there would be some sort of recall to improve the latch system.

You mean the little flap mext to the vertical stabilizer? That's the air intake for the APU. When the APU is shut off, it stays open for a little bit to let cool air in, then closes. The APU gets shut off shortly after both engines are running.

For all of you suddenly concerned with aviation safety I will say that flying is still and will always be many hundreds if not thousands of times safter than driving (every aviation enthusiast/expert/engineer etc. will tell u this). Ever since the two MAX8 crashes the media has seen aviation as an easy way to attract views. Half the time they don't know what their taking about (Like wth is even Tarmac why do they all report Taxiways, Ramps, Aprons and Runways as just Tarmac, how hard is it to say that the plane had to wait on a taxiway rather than tarmac). (Anyways back to the point)...A simple go around after a hard landing is reported as an EMERGENCY that put the lives of the passengers at risk. If the media want to know how properly report on aviation then they should stop exaggerating on minor accidents like a tyre falling of a plane or a blown slide saying that it was an emergency. If you want to report aviation correctly... please learn that Emergency Landing is NOT the same as a precautionary landing. If the media wants to correctly report on aviation they should actually hire someone with expertise on the topic who knows how aviation works and both the correct terms and knowledge to report effectively.

Somebody at Delta maintenance base in Atlanta is going to get seriously screamed at if not fired over this. Aircraft schedule for maintenance is for a light or heavy maintenance check 14 days the other takes 28 before the aircraft is rescheduled for service and depending on what's indicated on the scheduled maintenance report they will literally take an aircraft apart and put it back together. The team to do the slide maintenance missed a step or two or didn't tighten securing bolts properly Delta didn't have a problem with working with the FAA once they got the report they're not going to hide anything on this period, in fact some staff are seriously pissed over what could have happened

@@BladeBrigade7 Your statements lack logic. Boeing's employees have raised red flags about a lack of quality controls. Read about the whistle-blower case. A few airlines are discussing canceling their contracts to buy airplanes from Boeing due to quality problems.

Where is the slide located? If they lost the slide than the overwing door must be opened.

The slide is located in a panel just above the trailing edge of the wing underneath the passenger window in the fuselage. You can see the open panel in the picture. The slide extends from there aft so that people can safely slide down from the wing, which is still 10ft off the ground.

@@jeepthing98 well remember these planes are consistently worked on. Despite the couple a week we hear about, there are thousands in the air without incident. If your car was in the shop once a week getting a look-over for a whole day, it would probably last well past 35 years as well.
