Putin may argue that Russia was pushed to invade Ukraine, but that argument is only of any value if you accept the principle that Russia, as a superpower, is entitled to exert its power, through political, military and whatever means it deems necessary, over a "sphere of influence" encompassing other countries, whether that's limited to former Soviet republics, or extended to former Warsaw Pact countries, or really only limited by that nation's power projection (which, as we've seen, is laughable).
