Open your eyes, look at the video over the last week, and try to convince yourself that people are working hard. Having the same wreckage static on a barge for a week, and having cranes static and unloaded round the clock are clear evidence that nobody was working at all for the whole week until yesterday

Who says they are making excellent progress? Do some fact checking. Two pieces of wreckage were hoisted 9 days ago, and none from then for 8 whole days. The same 200-ton chunk sat static on a barge for a whole week. All the cranes are motionless. There is no division of the task into multiple sites. The only thing that moves in the live-streaming videos are the seagulls. For a whole week we were fed looping videos of the same two pairs of men with cutting torches. ANd they are lying about clearing channels. The so-called clear channels are under intact sections of the bridge where no wreckage fell and no wreckage was lifted. None of this is evidence of excellent progress.

@@jacks5kids They have mapped the debris in 3D by sonar, installed strain gauges, cleared two side channels (checked to make sure there were no hazards and maybe dredged them a bit), and removed a few chunks of girders. Not bad for "doing nothing". Clearing the cargo containers is a tedious activity. Check a container for damage, rig it, lift it, place it on the barge ... repeat. More workers and cranes would just get in each others' way.

LOL. Use your eyes. Most cranes are standing idle most of the time. The 200-ton chunk stood static on the same barge for 8 days. Between day 2 and day 10, zero pieces of wreckage were moved. The Governor and the news speak about a "national priority" and a "24/7" operation, but most of the footage we see shows ZERO activity. There could easily be multiple teams working in parallel at different locations. The area near the ship is delicate and sensitive, but plenty of other areas could be processed in parallel, and that is absolutely not what is happening. Finally, in the last 18 hours, we are starting to see just a little salvage activity. For over a week prior to that, absolutely nothing moved, and no journalists pointed that out; they just repeat the Governor's false narrative.

Not just Baltimore, every US port. The NTSB failed to ensure that this bridge was safe from the risks of malfunctioning large ships passing beneath. Now the NTSB is investigating its own failure. There is aircraft and large equipment in the area. A mile isn't that far away in that context. Even if flown well, and assuming no nearby air traffic, a drone can still be a distraction due to its presence and noise, which is a serious issue itself. Crane operators need as few distractions as possible. Likewise with others working dismantling the structure. To put it simply, without the restrictions, there would presumably be dozens or more drones flying around all hours of day and night. Some of which being operated in an unsafe, inconsiderate manner.

I doubt drones are the major issue. There's a TFR extending from sea level to 1200', 3Mi radius centered on the Dali. It keeps everyone back except aircraft working the recovery. The distance is overkill for a drone but pretty reasonable for faster moving traffic, and the TFR is universal to cover everyone.

@@artistjoh Here is a revolutionary thing that, from what you write is something you're unfamiliar with - Public transport. You know, this thing that is the most cost effective and efficient way to transport people as instead of using a huge chunk of metal to move max 5 pax, and in reality an average of 1.5 pax, get something that can move thousands. lane of road with cars can move around 1500 people per hour, one rail lane can move 20,000-80,000 thousandth people per hour. Buses are not as efficient but can still move 5000-10,000 people per hour. biking can move on a width of one lance more than buses and the width of a lane can move even more people walking. There is still room for cars but investment in car infrastructure cannot be the main and in many cases the only investment. I don't think the bridge should not be rebuilt but it should be built with public transport in mind and the vast majority of investment should go to enhance, improve and bring it up to par with the rest of the world. a city with a metro area of almost 3m cannot rely on one subway line with 14 stations and on light rail line with 33 station (and it is one line, 3 very short branches cannot count as 3 lines).

No. That bridge, by definition, was unsafe, as proven by the fact that a relatively routine malfunction of a ship brought it down in 3 seconds. The US government, which includes the NTSB, is terribly guilty in allowing ships, so large that they could do such damage, to pass so close to the unprotected supports of the bridge. As the ships got larger, appropriate protection should have been added to the bridge as supervised by the US government. That did not happen. The NTSB failed totally to keep transportation safe. WOrst of all, the NTSB is now in charge of investigation the failures of the NTSB. That isn't going to work, is it?

Ok, all your future engineers are incorrect. There are 3 different salvage operations going on at the same time. That means 3 different salvage crews and equipment . The 1000 ton Crain is tasked with clearing the ship of debris and any cargo . They'll need that power when removing the bridge deck. The other cranes (500 and 100 ton) are tasked to remove the bridge structure that is to both sides . Then a 3rd will be to clear the channel. Ignorant people are touchy here.

And the lawsuits will produce fortunes for the protégés law firms (friendly to politicians) they pick to represent the USA. The tax payers will get pennies, maybe. By making the one ship owner liable for the wreck, he files BK and it's over. I know better than that and I'm not a lawyer. They want this money tied to Washington DC for some reason. Also what is with all these fund raisers and where is the money going? The families of the 6 killed will get 10's of millions of dollars between the State, bridge and ship insurance alone. As for the workers, maybe some extra coffee and donuts but this is what they do and I'm sure they are getting paid bank for this job. Rescue divers, dive. Crane operators operate cranes. Metal cutters, cut. Their families don't need extra money while daddy is bringing in the big bucks. Why?

If you wait for the NTSB report and the challenges to the report, then go after the insurance companies, there will be no bridge for the next 5-7 years. Not much different when you're involved in an accident, where your insurance company gets started getting you somewhat back together. Later on, your insurance will go after the other insurance company to get reimbursed. Then the lawyers go after damages.

The cargo was declared force majeure already, recovery of goods to their owners is way, way down the priority list after that declaration. Cargo owners are actually on the hook for splitting the ship's liability because of the force majeure claim, and their cargo will be liquidated to settle up if they don't pay independently. Containers aren't being removed for any reason except that they need to lighten the Dali which is currently grounded. There are no active military assets behind the bridge - I have no idea where this claim comes from, it's nuts. The Navy is down at Norfolk, not at Baltimore. Maybe you're thinking of the merchant marine sea lift ships but they're seldom used, only leave port on rare occasions and absolutely not limiting our naval power in any way.
