Investigators from the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking suspects and appealing for witnesses after a series of shootings at a cinema in the City of Richmond Hill.
On Friday, May 24, 2024, at 7 a.m., police attended a cinema in the area of East Beaver Creek and Highway 7, after an employee arrived for work and found the windows of multiple main entrance doors shattered.
Video surveillance shows at 2:30 a.m., a dark-coloured sports utility vehicle (SUV) pull up in front of the entrance doors to the cinema. From the rear right passenger window, a suspect fires multiple shots in the direction of the entrance doors and the vehicle flees the scene.
This is the third shooting to occur at the cinema since May 17. A different suspect vehicle is observed in each occurrence.
On Friday, May 17, 2024, multiple shots were fired shortly before 10 p.m. toward the main entrance doors of the cinema. On Sunday, May 19, 2024, multiple shots were fired at 9:23 p.m. toward the main entrance doors to the cinema. In all three occurrences, there were no injuries.
Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage or video surveillance of the area to please come forward.
