I remember buying comic books at Jess Newberry's store when I was a kid, getting ice cream bars from Hammond's Grocery, and Nutty Buddys from John Henry's store. Anyone else recall these places?

Yep and the Tiger Den. Used to sit in the parking lot and watch traffic go by at Jim Oquinn's Ford dealership. Cecil Barton had that little TV repair shop at the end of town before you turn up to Big Ridge and the little dollar store next to his place. Mom used to buy us comic books there, 10 for a dollar, those days are sure gone.

I worked in Clintwood back in the 70's would go thru Haysi.

Haysi was a considerable town in my childhood.we went thru it on our way to the breaks.i came from oakwood,actually a little place called janey.between deel and oakwood.

Oh yeah, they were good, we used to walk down there from the high school to get a burger before our away football games.
