I love hexagon quilt blocks. They're quick and easy to make, there're many techniques you can use and the quilts are beautiful.
I've done a number of hexagon blocks and still trying different things.
This video demonstrates a kaleidoscope block that is made by cutting 6 triangles out of the same print of fabric stacked in 6 layers.
It's so quick and easy!

I’ve done a few of these. It’s so exciting to see what develops as you cut and piece. Some simple designs creates some pretty amazing blocks ie quilts. I always liked using the same fabric for the borders, so you’ll be amazing what designs came out of it. Fun!

I always wondered if this would come out! Nice! I've always wanted to do a kaleidoscope quilt but i didn't like the idea of wasting fabric by fussy cutting only specific things. So i wondered if using all the fabric would create good kaleidoscope. And it really does! Even when turned in other directions! Almost like you planned it but you didn't! I'm totally sold! Btw, hello from California! Love your tutorials!💜

Using a starter scrap of fabric, doubled, just before the actual pieces is, for me, the key to precision. I chain piece wherever possible and always end by sewing off onto another doubled scrap. This keeps the needle from pulling/pushing fabric through the needle hole and prevents the threads from tangling. And I use my Purple Thang to keep the true 1/4” seam allowance in place when I come to the end of an element. Or a stiletto can be used.

The concept is easy, but execution requires real precision in lining up the layers, and sewing the pieces together, or the illusion is spoiled. Also, the scale of the fabric chosen can make quite a difference in the effect.

@teresadownunder
@teresadownunder 6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the size of the quilt. I used about 4 yards. Check my video from Thursday on how to sew hexagon blocks together. For the corners, cut a triangle the same size and cut in half

Sonja, sew the blocks in halves only. Lay them out on a surface or design wall in a pattern that pleases you and then sew in rows of half blocks. Then sew rows together.
