Hellfire Leyland Olympian E130DRS First Aberdeen

A really loud Cummins engine Leyland Olympian in Aberdeen.

It was the 5 speed ZF5HP-500 in these, as opposed to the 4 speed ZF4HP-500 more commonly found in Olympians of this era.

These are the most powerful buses First Aberdeen have, used to work there at nights, you should hear and see one under full throttle :). Thats sounds great for a big diesel.

I agree, proper built buses these are, thanks for letting me know the whereabouts of this bus now, First usually scrap buses rather than sell them. But you never know I saw a B-MSO in Penzance last week.

Sister E131 DRS is preserved. After hearing this, I'm hoping to catch it one day!

Its got a mean growl when accelarating..I wonder how many of these older buses will survive when the stricter emission controls come into force in 2009

cummins L10 not a bad engine but ive always preferred a gardner. The L10 always sounded better in a double decker bus than a Leyland Lynx

I love the look of the front windscreen from the top deck on an Alexander R-type / East Lancs with an Alexander front - is this an ex-Lothian Leyland? Looks very similar. I love the radiator fan sound too! To get into the 'Olympian' frame of mind I'll have to keep watching more and more :)!

@kadooment95 The original gearbox is a ZF ecomat 4HP500 4 speed automatic. avialble in buses from 1980 til 2002.

Some sort of ZF, but I don't know any more spec than that.

It's a ZF 4HP500 they drone a lot with a cummins L10 engine.

What kinda of gearbox does this bus have? I can't pin down the sound...

These engines should use resonators instead of ordinary mufflers, to eliminate the loud low-pitch drone sound.
