Quite happily drove home on the A38 at a good 70mph too.

Wish we can buy that kind of isolation transformer on the open market. I guess you built it yourself because either commercial ones are too expensive or unavailable for purchase. Maybe do a video on inkjet print head cleaning. Surprised the DVD is not a white one.

I was given the bare transformer, so all I had to do was put it into a suitable box and wire it up. There are some good ones available now at sensible prices (less than £200 anyway). These printers do not lend themselves to getting at the head to clean it manually. There may be flushing solutions available, but I had to use the built-in cleaning program which drinks ink and doesn't always clear blocked nozzles. The DVD is a silver inkjet printable Taiyo Yuden professional DVD-R single layer, they are absolutely the highest quality, most compatible DVDs ever made. White ones were available too, I prefer the look of the silver ones. They have been out of production for some time now and when I run out of DVDs then I will stop offering them as an option, probably some time in 2022.

Well, you missed that half joke at the start, " They want a dvd for there granny.." But you don't want a granny. I was thinking the pwm chip had gone short on it's output, thankfully wrong :-D Most switchmode pwm chips have a threshold voltage input requirement, it locks out if it's below voltage. That unsmoothed d.c must have triggered the lockout threshold multiple times, too much stress maybe?. Or just a odd waveform reaching the primary. I would have checked the output for shorts, or trowsers in cold weather lol. Hey you like to repair things and do mods, i don't think anyone will turn there nose up at any of your videos. . I hate printers, they are designed to waste ink everytime, and the petty blocking of non original refill cartridges is just to force you to buy there ones.

The waveforms must have been horrible, even worse when the printer motors started. The 47uF capacitor read a few nF.

What's the debate about on the wiring of an isolation transfer? Other youtubers say it must be floating, neutral wire disconnected I think.
@video99couk3 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of whether the Earth connection should be made or not. All isolation transformers have the neutral (and live) not referenced to mains, that's the whole point of them. I see on some isolation transformers, they have a switch so the earth connection can be floating or connected.
@frankowalker46622 жыл бұрын
The earth pin is usualy referenced to the neutral of the mains, so if you connect the earth then it defeats the point of the isolation transformer.

hi i will say RS are very very good for parts i had a acc with them for a long time there one thing new bee;s have to pay heavy shipping funny you my ask
@video99couk3 жыл бұрын
There was no shipping cost since I collected, so the capacitor cost £1.15, which is very reasonable. And yes I did get permission to film inside, before anyone asks!

my burned dvds did not fail in my country
@video99couk3 жыл бұрын
The Taiyo Yuden DVDs I create do not "fail" either. But it's a terrible archive medium because DVD is compressed with MPEG2, which is very bad for video editing. If mistreated, DVDs get scratched and of course they can be lost. Video files are much easier to back up, share and edit, so a much better archive format.

@@video99couk Everything you say about DVD is correct, but can you recommend a good deep analysis solution for when the _source_ is interlaced MPEG2? There is a lot of content that only exists in this format and is nearly unwatchable on modern devices.
