What I love about BLACKOUT is the organic comedy that comes from the censoring, and seeing the baffled looks on the players' faces as they try to figure out what they didn't hear. The fiendish look of glee on the player using the Blackout Button was also good for laughs.😁

Well well, Jan Rabson. Never knew the voice of Leisure Suit Larry did a game show, let alone was once a PI!

When Blackout debuted in 1988, the show was blacked out in Minneapolis because of its commitment to the syndicated show Hour Magazine. I caught a glimpse of a show and saw why the show had a short run. It was too complicated. Fortunately, the show was replaced by the show that occupied Blackout's time slot, The $25,000 Pyramid. Three months later, Family Feud came back with Ray Combs taking over the hosting duties from Richard Dawson. It would be the last show in that time period until CBS cancelled it in 1993 and returned the time period to affiliates because many stations (including WCCO in the Twin Cities) were carrying syndicated talk shows. One sound I recognized was the times up bell that was also used on the Goodson-Todman game shows Tattletales and Now You See it.

Fun fact about the date of the show's debut: It was also the same day Nickelodeon launched Nick Jr., both of which are owned by CBS.

What does this show have in common with Whew? It has funny animation at the beginning of the show. What does it have in common with Hit Man? It lasted for only 13 weeks. What do all three have in common? They were all created by Jay Wolpert.

If I were to revive this game show, I'd keep the game play the way it is, but change the name!!! I'd rename it "MUTE"!!!!

I wonder why Johnny didn't say "from Trapper John", Charlie Siebert, was the show cancelled by 1988?

One word in a minute of game play or 14 in 30 seconds. No wonder people wanted Pyramid back.

@MrBennetzen I predicted Combs Feud would suffer the same fate. Instead, Ray went on to become one of my favorite hosts.

Do you have the $25,000 Pyrami return premiere from April 1988?
