Yes, but also album to be listened both ways. One way person is moving to the right path and other way, wrong path. So two versions of humble, but this video more focused on prideful Kendrick telling others to be humble to his greatness ( especially Drake 😂).

@@TaDeDiDiNiQi Kendrick is really good at saying if you listen to the song at face value you're dumb for good kid maad City swimming pool is taken the way supposed to sound like a fun drinking song when really it's a song against the drinking however on the album damn he tends to talk about the opposite of the sin or virtue that the title represents especially with the the virtues he goes to extremes to explain the sin that correlates to it I don't think the right way to understand it is what is he talking about I think the best way to understand it is figure out what you get from the content in this album or you can just see it from a hood perspective to understand what personality types he's used to or sins he struggled with himself but they go hand-in-hand with the virtues

Oh man i am so excited to see this. In this song kendrick is reflecting upon himself. When you mentioned that everything he was talking about wasn't very humble you were correct! In the chorus he says, "sit down, be humble" this is kendrick reminding himself to be humble and slow down even though he himself knows he could easily flex and show off he decides to be humble.
@irollerblade13Ай бұрын
This song is basically Kendrick calling out other rappers for being fake and over-the-top while also reminding himself to stay grounded. He’s talking about how so many rappers in the game rely on Photoshop, clout-chasing, and acting like something they’re not But At the same time, he’s honest enough to admit that he has to check himself too. “Sit down, be humble.” It’s not just for them he's talking to himself as well.

In the Last Supper scene, they use a grid of 4 cameras 2 top 2 bottom with different lenses/focal lengths (that's why the objects seem to jump back and forth). K'DOT's video's are mostly works of art. He's as visual an artist as he is a musical genius. He just did a new video for the song "Squabble Up" and there are so many easter eggs in it people are still searching for all of them. I don't believe for a second that DOT was on fire. I havent seen an explanation of the meaning here, so let me try: Kendrick is portraying himself as the prophet / messiah / jesus here. He tells the competition / others in this culture to be humble, as he is the elder above them. Seen with the religious imagery (the last supper and the robes and church) and the critique of superficiality ("Im so sick and tired of the photoshop"). With some surrealism, which is a common way for african (-american) culture to portray imagery. It's just multilayered critique and him demonstrating his dominance. Kendrick is known to have meaning and purpose / reference in every single detail of his videos and lyrics, with double entandres (dual meaning in his words). His focus on Drake this year shows how much this man hates superficiality and people portaying themselves as someone they are not (a part of his culture and struggle). superficiality should not be confused with surrealism.

He's also mocking generic rappers with this song, using a catchy beat, a simpler style of rapping, talking about money, sex, etc., basically proving that he can do complex albums like To Pimp a Butterfly but also write a #1 bop whenever he wants.

The reason to why the video is so centered around Kendrick is because the lyrical meaning behind the song is about him asking other people to be humble in order to deflect his need of being humble and putting it on other people in order to get rid of the responsibility, then on the other tracks of the album it comes back to bite him as he goes through more of the deadly sins through other songs like LUST etc.

Explanation to the song if you weren’t already told: humble is a part of one of Kendrick story albums called DAMN. In the album, you can actually listen to it front to back or back to front song order. Each one will tell a different story front to back will be about going from wickedness to weakness and back to front will be about weakness to wickedness. There are more videos with an in depth guide and explain more about it, but I just thought I’d give you a little summary.

This song is a response/diss track to Big Sean’s subliminal disses. In particular on “No more interviews”, Big Sean says “And I’m just not impressed by you niggas rapping fast who sound like one big asthma attack but trash when I’m rapping it back who you put in your top five and claim they the savior of rap”. Kendrick is telling Sean to be humble. The “lil bitch” after he says be humble is also one of Big Sean’s most used adlibs. Kendrick also released “The heart part 4” a week prior to releasing Humble where he also mentioned “lil bitch” and rapped “1,2,3,4,5, I am THE GREAT-EST rapper aLIVE”. Later in the song he references Big Sean’s album, Hall of Fame by saying “Hoe, Jay-Z hall of fame sit your punk ass down” tying it back to Humble.

To understand why the song is called HUMBLE in spite of its lyrics, you really have to listen to and understand the record as a whole "concept," if you will. The "wickedness or weakness" theme recurs throughout the entire project, and has a lot to do with it. This song basically critiques others' egos while reflecting on his own. It’s not about being one or the other-it’s about grappling with both. I strongly encourage you to give it a listen if you've the time in your already busy schedule.
