UC San Diego became the first university to design, print and test an 'additively-manufactured 'rocket engine. It was printed from Cobalt Chromium. The students were part of UCSD's chapter of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS)

That was actually our ignition system! Nothing fell apart from the engine itself.

That is a great test and huge step in future travel possibly to make parts lighter and cheaper to build the crafts needed for long time travel!!!!!

Due to the nature of our static fire system we had to shut off out Liquid Oxygen supply first and then left our RP-1 valve open to cool then engine after our test concluded. That is why it looks like a bunch of flames shot out afterwards. It was just extra RP-1 to cool the engine.

Thats called flaming out. The fire inside the pressure chamber goes out, maybe due to an inequality of fuel / oxidizer. The rest fuel / oxidizer is just pushed outside where it gets ignited by the still existing heat.

That looked really good. What software did you use to design it?
