Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Gets a New PC Recompilation! Like Majora's Mask!

Robert (or FPGAZumSpass) is done with active development of the MiSTer FPGA N64 core, giving us 99% of a fully functioning Nintendo 64 on MiSTer FPGA. But a NEW Nintendo 64 project has come along thanks to Mr-Wiseguy : Zelda 64 Recompiled! A new static recompiler of Nintendo 64 games for modern PC's! So it's not a MiSTer FPGA review episode...its a PC gaming episode featuring a Nintendo 64 game! Which is just wild! This is part of the N64Recomp project and I can't wait to see what comes of this! Because now we have one of the best retro games in a whole new playable version!
and now Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is part of the N64 Recompilation project, giving us more N64 games to play on PC! It's one of the best N64 games IMO so it's going to be a ton of fun!

These decopiled games are now getting to be amazing, I don't really understand why someone would want to lose nearly 50% of the viewable real estate with croping 4:3 to 16:9, but it's great that it's an option for those who like it, if you wan't a wider aspect without butchuring the orignal POV and losing so much vertical resolution, then you want 16:10, this maintains 100% of the vertical resolution, but adds the extra 10% horizonatal resolution (5% either side), 3:2 is even better of course, giving 20% extra horizontal resolution (10% either side), what would be incredible, other than 3:2 aspect being added to these decompiles (which is the golden ratio), is 1:1 aspect. I recently aquired an EZIO 27-inch 1:1 monitor, and let me tell you something, my days bruv, playing a game with 1920x1920 of equal H/V resolution is incredible, the imersivness factor sky rockets for some reason, I'm not sure exactly why, but the way the brain percieves perfectly equal horizontal and vertiacal resolution, especially on a 27" 1920x1920 profesional grade EIZO monitor, but it feels almost uncanny, like I'm looking through a window, letter box resolutions like 16:9 or 21:9 just don't have this effect for vid games despite being fantastic for film, even 3:2 cant quite manage the level of uncanny immersivness 1:1 seems to have, I wasn't expecting it to have such an effect, so yeah anyway, I would frickin love to see 1:1 and 3:2 added to these decomps. Now I've opened pandoras box and experienced high res 1:1 gaming, I really want to experience OOT and MM in imaculate 1:1 aspect, feels like your looking through a portal into another world lol, it really is effective, now I really want a 32-inch RGB-OLED gaming monitor with a 5000x5000 480Hz 1:1 aspect ratio panel, it's on a par with comparing black & white to colour TV's, I think it really is that big of a deal for vid games, I love 4:3 & 3:2, but I really think 1:1 is on another level for opening up the POV and imersivness level, it's actually spoilt everything else for me a little lol. Oh yeah, one more thing, I have managed to get sub 3ms frame-time performance for these decomps on Windows 7 embedded, the footprint is tiny compared to Windows 10 which will give you as high as over 50ms all in and that's with frame jitter, Win 7 embedded managed a rock solid and locked 3m, a perfect flatlined frame-time pace, when combined with 1000Hz polling gamepad (I use a low latency USB encoder meant for arcade cabs, only cost 10 bucks), it's not quite 0ms frame-time MiSTer performance with BliSTer or SNAC, but a complete end-to-end chain 3ms is insane for X86 or X64 latency performance, I tink I can get it too 1.5ms with an Intel 3D-Xpoint SSD, in fact, I know I can, and if I changed to a motherboard with an analogue BIOS and a native analogue GPU RAMDAC, I might even see sub 1ms, getting close to real console levels, well it's never gonna be bare-metal level, but if I can it down to 1ms, I'd consider it good enough even for rythm games (which I love) and fast 2D platformers and SHMUPS, sub 1ms is a tall order though, shibby.

@@VideoGameEsoterica I tried the OG GB and GBC core on the 1:1 monitor, last night using the pixel grid overlay, and OG green pallet for the GB, feck me it looks so good, bizarre seeing a big screen full frame GB image, playing Tetris made the LCD latency obvious though, so it's not great for gameplay, looks so good though, if it was OLED I'd never stop using it for games.

I remember playing this game when it came out. My impression was that it was pretty good, not like Mario 64 but still I enjoyed it a lot. I specially liked the odd final level where the characters start singing like its a musical. Also the song "Kay Highway" is such an earworm. It's forever stuck in my head.

Ironically, the Japanese version is the first version of this game that I played back in the day. My local game rental store had a bunch of import N64 games at the time, and this was the first one I rented! It was well before the game released outside of Japan. I remember getting shockingly far into it, despite having no idea what was happening in the story.

Still waiting on the English version to be given a recomp. You simply do not play Goemon without the script. It is way too funny and is arguably a quarter of the experience. Can not even begin to describe how funny it was hearing the laugh track the first time.
