As depressing and visually disturbing as this ending is, I think it makes the most sense for how a revolutionary leader fighting slavery like Markus would want to act. He needed to show the humans that he would rather die than be enslaved. But I think the president should have had the military stand down like in the kiss or sing endings. I would think that watching an Android literally set itself on fire in sacrifice for its people would be more striking to the public than a random kiss or a song.

Actually you misinterpreted the ending of Connor. If Connor is declared as the new leader, cyberlife decides to hack Connor one last time and use him as a puppet to control the android movement. Once you escape Amanda's garden, Connor kills himself to protect the androids from himself and cyberlife. It is also a sacrifice similar to Markus' if you ask me.

Ayla Alya if those Cyberlife androids weren’t awakened, then I guess that would be a good ending. Humans were moved by the scene and public is now on the androids side all across the US. So although Markus and Jericho died, the other androids will still get their freedom. But if Connor infiltrates Cyberlife, then it kinda sucks, because Detroit is evacuated and deviants were left without the leader. That’s not very good.

The problem is that they'd then have to write the routes for what the Jericho crowd tries to do next, of which there are eight possibilities since Simon, North, and Josh can each independently be alive or dead. They would significantly change the outcome; North would probably still try to raid Recall Center Nº5, while Simon and Josh would oppose this, for instance. It'd be super cool, but you're writing that entire branch just for this one option that only 4% of the people who pick demonstration chose. This way, it just branches into the Deviant Connor alone endings, which also play if Markus fails the revolution or something.

Leonidas and his 300 knew from the beginning that they were about to lose nevertheless they sacrificed themselves to defend the freedom of Greece. They chose to be free and they defended the spartan law till the end: never surrender,never retreat. Their bravery is still glorified. Marcus and his companion did the same.

Literally just goes to show how shitty the writing is in this segment, do you seriously think any sane human being who’d witness something as upsetting and heroic as setting yourself ablaze for your people, would be able to just gun down the others in the end? The game really should’ve rewarded you for your sacrifice, not spit you in your face for what was thematically and realistically appropriate. I’d say it’s even more moving than the sing ending, and especially the kiss.

I know its two years late, but huh, I somehow managed to do it. First play, I didn't had even intention to kill them. Sacrificed Marcus because I thought its the right thing to do, especially as him, then made Connor commit suicide to prevent Cyberlife from control of this situation. Then turned off Kara, because I (unfortunately) killed Alice and Luther in the river ending and decided Kara's life would be meaningless without this little girl. I cried so much

I mean, look at what just happened. The police just slaughtered all but a few of your people and are holding you at gunpoint. Your chances are survival are slim. This was my original ending for Markus and i'll explain my thinking. I thought that singing would have resulted in us getting shot, i chose Sacrifice as a last ditch effort to save my people. That maybe the image of me destroying myself (didn't know i would self-immolate though) would be powerful enough to convince the soldiers to not fire on the others. Basically a situation of we are all dead unless i sacrifice myself, which might give the others a chance. To be totally honest i can't see how singing saves everyone but giving your own life doesn't have that same effect. That's my biggest issue with this ending.

But those soldiers killed almost all of your people, then why would they stop when one of em was ready to sacrifice? I mean why would they care about it anyway?

We've seen the response to actual self immolation such as the international outcry for Tibet after monks there self immolated in protest. Markus self immolating should have been traumatic, shocking for the soldiers. Killing something that's trying to defend itself is one thing. Watching it kill itself for others is another, because it demonstrates something more than logic. It demonstrates empathy to the point of self sacrifice. "Sacrifice" as an option should have had a similar result as that of Sing or Kiss. If nothing else it should have convinced the President to call off the soldiers and try to figure out WHY Markus chose to self immolate, since no logical machine would do something like that.
