I'm going to assume that what was frightening was not simply that the characters were moving quickly on all fours, but rather that the animations were rough, severely unpolished, and just looked very wrong. That's to be expected in early phases of development when you're not yet devoting time to nailing it down because you haven't decided whether it will be kept.

I feel like a game where Peach is the villain HAS to be the final Mario game. She's kidnapped Bowser as revenge and gone all power hungry with her armies of goons to jump on and the end of the game is her realising she went too far and Bowser realising being kidnapped sucks, so neither of them ever do it again. Would be a fun game tho.

In short, it is quite possible that a plane that you don't know about could be made, because it can be created, and used, to create a little "cutie pie" that you can play with or do anything else, but as this project goes, I don't have any reason to think I can't think for certain that there are any reasons to think about making a full fledged plane. A Mario game with horror (i.e. "scary") elements would be pretty cool. . . Of course, Luigi's Mansion is already a thing, but I'd argue that those games are far more goofy than "scary", and would benefit from a little more creep and scare put into them (obviously not to a degree where it shifts Mario from an ESRB E to T or whatever. . . That's never going to happen). It's a flex I'd really enjoy seeing Nintendo take with some franchise in the future. Imagine just an all out, brand new horror I.P. from Nintendo in general? I don't see it happening, but I'd love to see it happen.
