In Daechwita, Suga was struggling between the part of himself that was hungry for power and money and the version of himself that remembered his true self and his humble beginnings. If you remember, he shot at the power hungry version of himself, but we never saw a body so he might not have completely conquered his desire for money and power. In this video though, he’s taking the money that the crooked cop wants and he burns it, because money has stopped being so important to him anymore, and this time we do see the body of the more corrupt version of himself that has been trying to take over. But you need to pay attention to the scars. In Daechwita the king had a fresh scar over his eye, the version from the slums had a healing scar. In Haegeum the cop had a healed scar and the robber/vigilante had no scar. So what we are seeing are versions of himself that are healing their scars as time goes by. That will be important in the next video.

In Daechwita it was more his rage, paranoia and isolation that he was killing off. The Mad King trusted no one, was alone and paranoid and wrathful, bloodthirsty and taking heads, standing on his cowering advisors, which maybe represented his inner vulnerabilities and other, more reasoned aspects of himself. He refused to let anyone use the people's drum, which you can see behind the mass execution scene, to allow citizens to speak their grievances, instead taking the heads of everyone who tried. Again, perhaps representing those other aspects of self, trying to get a voice in his head like his grief, pain, vulnerability, tenderness, affection, confidence, joy, etc. Peasant Agust D, on the other hand, had his crew of 6 brothers behind him and the one woman representing ARMY. He was confident, more relaxed, actually smiling at points. Greed may have been part of what he was trying to destroy in that MV, but he obviously felt he was not totally successful, and he returned to address greed again in Haegeum, as you described.

Just so you know, the guy who gets shot at the end is a corrupt cop. The “criminal” Suga breaks up his drug operation and takes his money to draw him out. The guy who is crouching on the floor on the phone is in cahoots with Suga’s plan and reports the attack to draw out the corrupt cop. (Just like the butcher in Daechita who is the executioner for the corrupt emperor but wants to help “poor” Suga to overthrow him.) At the end, the men standing around are actually part of Suga’s team, not the cop. That’s why Suga gets a ride to the noodle shop. He wasn’t under arrest.

My interpretation of the chopsticks has to do with the Haegeum. A Haegeum has two strings, so the two red chopsticks represent his music. He both slays his enemies and feeds himself with his music.
@BangPDsMom8 ай бұрын
A Haegeum is a traditional Korean musical instrument and it’s also the releasing of that which is forbidden. Agust D does a couple of things that are forbidden: 1) bloody violence is frowned on in music videos 2) smoking by an idol-most idols aren’t allowed by their agencies to smoke in public and certainly not in a music video. So this mv was very shocking when it was released.

Hey, I'm jumping in here from the Amygdala reaction. Not sure why comments are off...hahahaha, and you're so right, we would have a lot to say. But just to address the pill popping part, Yoongi had a close connection that got caught up with drugs and it ruined his relationship, there's a song called Dear My Friend that touches on it but he's also been really upfront about his past depression, anxiety plus chronic shoulder pain from his scooter accident that he ended up getting surgery for 10 years later so I'm pretty sure the pills you're seeing him take are prescription, also the bottle is a prescription bottle as well...so yes he was medicated but a little different than what "pill popper" suggests since I would assume his wasn't taking them for recreational use. Also, at the beginning of the video, he's eating almonds since the Amygdala (A Mig Da La) is a small almond shaped part of the brain responsible for coding memories for triggers that we can react to in situations that might be life threatening...but which also plays a part in PTSD. Thanks for your reactions.

In response to "Amygdala". The whole chat wasn't there so I don't know what they told you. The accident was real. He actually got pinned under the car. It ruined his shoulder. However, he didn't tell Big Hit because he thought they would throw him out of BTS. He suffered all those years doing choreography. Those were pain pills he had to take to endure the pain. He didn't get addicted to them. He had to have steroid shots before concerts just so his shoulder and arm could move. Finally, one day, he couldn't raise his arm. So he had to tell Hybe. They said they would not have kicked him out. He had corrective surgery and great physical therapy. So everything works now. But his military service is different. A desk job. No physical training or workouts for him except some of the basics. They didn't want to risk reinjury to his shoulder. His parents survived their physical challenges and are doing great. They went to therapy with him long ago. Which is really unusual for the Korean culture. However, family therapy is available for all, but many don't do it sadly because of the imagined response from family and friends if they found out. And Suga is great now. He processed all his hardships and emotional traumas. He is in a great healthy mental state. He survived it all. And many of Army appreciate him telling his Truth. And being vulnerable. Because they can relate and not be afraid to ask for help!

Thanks for this. I just came from ‘Amygdala’, to mention I couldn’t leave any info because the comments were off. I wonder why.
@NanciBK7 ай бұрын
He did tell Hybe earlier than what you are saying. He revealed it in stages over years of time. Initially he lied and said he fell down some stairs and hurt his shoulder. He was afraid to get in trouble for moonlighting as a delivery driver to pay his school fees, as well as afraid he would be let go as a trainee for being injured. He was also afraid his brothers would not get to debut, since Big Hit was hanging by a thread financially at the time and all their songs and choreo had been done for 7 people and there was no time and money to rework everything. But the choreographer noticed first that he was just unable to move correctly and he had to reveal more about his injuries. He still downplayed them, and downplayed his pain. Only a few people knew, like the choreographer and Bang PD. And he didn't come clean to the boys until years later. There is actually video of that. Notice how their faces fall as they realize what he is saying and how much pain he must have been in and how he bore it silently as well as the near-death trauma. Notice how they say he stopped working out and stopped b-boying at that time and they never knew why, as he used to break dance for fun with j-hope prior to his accident. Notice how Namjoon says he never understood the lyric in The Last about holding his broken shoulder before. Even his best friend, Namjoon, didn't know. Imagine that. He was living with them in very close quarters all those years, at the time of the accident still all on one bedroom. They were together nearly 24/7 every day, at home, at work and at play. Yet he kept it from them. Somehow. It just illustrates what a closed off and private person he had been. This revelation seems casual, the way he says it, downplaying the importance of it in typical Yoongi fashion, but this is a big deal for him to expose himself in this way. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH3Rkp2bh5aBa7c

And then you saw the joker hanging out of the car! You gave yourself a very deserved applause. I started clapping too. Standing Ovation for you. And I don't care if you don't get the pronunciation correct the first time. Almost nobody does...unless they are possible Korean. And you don't need to apologize for anything you say. Again, congratulations! Good job. The next one. "Amygdala". Even harder to pronounce. In fact, he gives it a Korean pronounciation. In the U.S. we pronounce it differently. It's a body part. See below. I'll be surprised if you get the next one because it's about his real life.

*Meanings for the song titles* *Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.) *Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden. *Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.

The talent of AgustD/Suga is just ridiculous. He is the only writer or producer on this song he did it all himself and he writes his own story boards. He comes up with such interesting concepts and his story telling is at such a high level. He also has never been shy about talking about really big real issues and speak on deep social commentary. People might be surprised how many songs on these kinds of topics (although sometimes subtle) BTS has. But this song is soooo good its just ridiculous how intense he is. The whole album is just amazing and he was one of the most impressive acts I have ever seen live. AgustD is fighting himself. The part of him that is greedy, corrupt, that wants power, money, to hurt others. The kind is executing people, the cop is corrupt. He wants to be the rebellious man of the people. A little crazy very indifferent. He is always fighting the part of himself that wants to be corrupt. The chopstick could well be a tool can be two things used for destruction and killing or just used to feed you. Its showing two sides to the tool, two sides to AgustD, two sides to Haegem a two stringed instrument he uses as the backing track and in the intro, but Haegum also means to lift a ban. Smoking is socially banned for kpop idols its a BIG bad scandal for them to be caught smoking by paps. Several BTS members have had supposed smoking scandals. Here he burns the whole scandal down by saying "I'm 30 a grown adult I'll smoke if I want to try and stop me or criticize me or make a scandal out of it now". Hes breaking a ban. The layers in this are just chefs kiss so many hidden details even the location is a former slaves market in Thailand is significant.

Haegeum has 2 meanings befitting the duality that runs through the trilogy.. 1. A 2 stringed traditional instrument 2. Also the rebellion against or the overturning of pointless restrictions or rules. Traditionally idols were not allowed to be photographed publically smoking. As in Daechwita poor/ Joker Sugar is an agent of rebellion the corrupt abusive cop represents those in power. Power is defeated with the aid of the people.

So Joe E, I have SO much respect for what you have done here. I am silver ARMY. Your approach to their art is such a treat to watch. You just GET IT!! You managed to get a lot of it first shot. So many reactors just get it all wrong . Your break downs are so interesting , educational and insightful. Haegeum= a 2 stringed traditional instrument , Korean. (heard in the beginning of this track) Also= the lifting of a ban , or prohibition Not a second in you caught the use of color and it's importance throughout the entire video, You are good at your job Joe. You are not a Korean speaker yet through the clues scattered everywhere, managed to catch so much more that most do first view.(Or even second view!!😂) RESPECT my little Brother!! (Yeah I am 60, I can say that !) It is hard to read, and catch the details as you go. You take the time to go back and appreciate those little details your training gets you to notice. Then you share them with us untrained fans. This sharing gives us ARMY, a new way to look at videos we have seen so many times already, that is what a good reaction does! A few little clues, you were so close to ( I was cheering you on!! NO LIE) That kid with the gun in the first video,,, same persona as the corrupt police officer in this video! It will all click for you now!! All of these people getting, unalived,,, same people. You are right. These personas are ALL parts of Min Yoongi( Agust D or Suga) . One more thing. You are understanding the importance of his lyrics. Keep paying attention! Most of BTS music are lyric meaning heavy. RM, Suga and J Hope all have learned to write wonderful subtle nuance in their lyrics. Too many artists do not do this anymore. It is just one of the reasons this group of artists are SO special. ARMY is 20 to 50 million strong for a reason. Go to Doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com for translations. They are pretty much acknowledged as the most accurate translations of BTS lyrics. Please keep doing what you are doing, we need more people who do what you do. Enjoy, relax, BE SAFE.!! Will be watching you Lil Brother!! BORAHAE!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Again, SUGA is two opposing characters... the undercover cop/criminal (the jury is still out on this one) and the corrupt cop/official. The instrument you hear in the background is a heageum. Amusing note. I watch a Mongolian reactor and when Yoongi first grabbed the chopsticks he said "Ooooo, somebody's getting chopsticks in the eye!" LOL He knew immediately. Also, I absolutely don't mind cursing in response to being moved by the art. Express yourself how you want. A note on editing for your uploads: There is a large disparity in volume between the MV and your comments, with the MV being really loud and your voice being really quiet, so it's difficult to have to keep adjusting the volume. Notes on Amygdala, as you have comments off on that video. The Amygdala is the part of the brain that stores and processes memories and holds onto trauma. Here we are getting an origin story for the trauma (the scar) that we see in the first two songs of the trilogy. You see that represented literally when he takes the blade to his own face. He considers his traumas self-inflicted wounds because he was too young and not healthy enough to deal with all the things that happened to him at the time. As you can see, many things happened to him, and in Amygdala he only mentions some of it, not all of it. He doesn't mention his parents not supporting his music and the rift that caused between them and how they fought bitterly, and he moved out while still in high school, living in a crappy musician's crash pad while trying to scrape a living in the rap underground and still go to high school, before he finally got picked up by Big Hit after a rap battle competition. He doesn't mention having to leave BTS on tour for emergency surgery to remove his appendix. He doesn't talk about his crippling social anxiety and panic attacks that even caused BTS to cancel some large shows in Japan and the soul searching he did in the wake of that, writing an open letter to ARMY about it all. There is more, but you get the idea. Yoongi has been through a lot. Re: Pills ~ Drugs are HIGHLY HIGHLY Illegal in S Korea and incredibly socially taboo. Yoongi would never depict illegal drug use or addiction in an MV. It would just be career suicide for a S Korean artist. Being found guilty of even using drugs results in prison time, and they even do hair testing to check for drugs from months and months back. Even the rumor of it, and the resulting public condemnation and police harassment, etc, can end careers and cause idols and actors to take their own lives. That's exactly what happened recently to an actor from the film Parasite, who was accused falsely of drug use by someone who had also tried to blackmail and extort him and the resulting backlash for just the rumor was so severe that he took his own life. So, given the context of S Korean culture, we can only presume what his intention is to show here. It may be anxiety and depression medication, but may also be pain medication for his shattered shoulder from his accident. But not opioid painkillers, as those are also illegal in S Korea even as a prescription. He's never, to anyone's knowledge, had an addiction issue whatsoever. Believe me, if there was even a hint of it, those who want to take BTS down would be ALL OVER that story, it would be viral and horrific and pushing for a police investigation, etc. That's how it works in S Korea.
